My great grandfather John Byrne lived in Clonmel but he came from Fethard, Co Tipperary. He was baptised in Holy Trinity church on 5th June 1845. His parents were Thomas Byrne and Brigid Smith and the sponsor was Margaret McGrath. John was a shoemaker. There was a Thomas Byrne a boot & shoemaker in Moore street , Fethard in 1846, in Watergate street in 1856 and in Moore Street in 1870. He may have been John's father. He was born about 1803 and died a widower in 1875. The informant was Patrick Byrne - probably a relative, maybe his son? Patrick was still a shoemaker in Moor street in 1881.This changed to General Thomas Francis Burke Street in 1886.
I can find no trace of the death of Brigid Byrne nee Smith. The only marriage for a Thomas Byrne and Brigid Smith that I found is in 1833 in St Marys , Dublin.
John Byrne , a bachelor shoemaker, is in barrack street, Fethard in 1901 [born 1846] and also in 1911 [ born 1831]. I wondered if he was a relative , maybe a son of Thomas and brother of John?
I would love to discover more about this side of my family. I will be in Ireland in November for 2 weeks and hope to visit Fethard. I would be grateful for any help in tracing John's parents and family and possible descendants of his siblings. Any information at all would be appreciated..

That's a good idea, I'll post re Thomas Byrne (1803-1875) shoemaker in Moor street. I looked up the record you suggested for Bridget Byrne but sadly it was a different person.
I can visit Fethard any day from the 9th to 13th or 19, 20, 21 November. If I could meet a local volunteer that would be marvellous.

I have just posted to this message board about my Byrne/Walsh ancestors. All of my Byrne ancestors that I have so far been able to trace were born in Fethard. Richard Byrne was my great great grandfather, married in 1825. His son, Thomas Byrne, born in 1844, was my great grandfather. He owned a foundry business. Thomas had eleven children, one of whom was John Joseph, my grandfather, who was born in 1880. My granfather was a blacksmith in Fethard and he also did iron work, such as fences. One of Thomas's other sons was named Thomas and I have two possible birrthdates for him: 8-30-1885 and 1-1-1886. His middle name was Agustin. My grandfather eventually came to the United States and settled in the Chicago area.
I am trying to find more information about my Byrne family preceding 1825, which would be Richard Byrne's family. If you find any other information that could possibly relate to my Byrne family in Fethard, please let me know.
