Sounds like a connection to Janette Hovelt down there, but she has no desire to discuss her ancestors. (DUMAS/CANTILLON) We have a DNA match according to Sue Martin McCall (deceased) who has researched the Dumas/Cantillon lineage of Kerry. Can't remember if I have asked you if you know her. Dunno where she lives down under. Don -INdianapolis, IN

Hi Don,
I went looking for Janet Hovelt on the net after the last time you mentioned her.
Found some mentions of Hovelts in the Electoral Rolls from years ago, but nothing else.
Our free digitised newspapers online only go up to (mostly) 1956. I found that Hovelt is a Dutch name but that's about it.
The Victorian BDM's have four listings up to 1980, and all were born in South Africa as BROWN-HOVELT. So it seems Victoria is where they settled.
We have to presume Janet married into the HOVELT family.
Ah, another search just now shows an Ancestry Electoral Roll mention for a JANET LORAINNE BROWN-HOVELT and a JANETTE ANNE BROWN-HOVELT in Victoria. But that was back in 1980.
I can't look at the entry as I don't belong. Hoping to get to the library today, so will look there, but the address will be old.
We also have to take in the sad fact that she may no longer be with us.
My cousin wrote to a Michael Barry MANY years ago, whose mother was a daughter of a later Patrick Cantillon. He gave a few anecdotes but NO dates or tree, and he mentioned "a woman in Australia" who had also written to him.- and when she found there was no CASTLE or STATUS associated with the immediate family, never wrote again. Wonder if that was her?
Have just come back onto this site after many years away.
Posted all my family names to both the general list and the parishes.
Had a couple of answers to my GLEESON family which I answered, but they haven't written back further.
And you are the only one to answer my Cantillon query.
Cheers,
Wynnette in Queensland, Aus.

Hey Cuz! Thanks for the update. It may have been Sue McCall who wrote to Michael Barry, because I think she's the only one down under researching the names. Check out this DNA kit # T705095 which belongs to Janette Holvelt. I agree with you re her last name as being her married name. I have Sue's DNA kit # too and will look it up and send. Castleshannon borders Bouleenshere, which had another name back earlier so will send that too when I find it. There are many Cantillons and Dumas surnames listed on the free Wiki Tree website. Keep'em coming Cuz. We'll get there yet. Don

Hi Don.
Sad to see post re Sue McCall/Martin.
Have tested against both Janette Hovelt (T705095) and Sue McCall/Martin (T142702)? and I have NO DNA MATCH FOUND with either.
If I remember my initial reading of a family tree, Janette was only from the line that a relative MARRIED a CANTILLON (or was it a DUMAS?) female. So that is not surprising.
So why was SUE researching the line? Unless her and my re-combinant Cantillon DNA has been filtered by the time it has passed down through all the generations and we have inherited different parts of the DNA through different lines - so that there is no longer a match between us.
HAVE to press my cousin Peter to send me that Cantillon family tree he got all those years ago that he said was basically of no use. He has had so much illness within his family this past year, and copier/printer malfunctions, I haven't had the heart to bother him.
Will approach him again.
Cheers, Wynnette.
