Hi

I am researching on behalf of my aunt.

Her grandfather Martin Carrigg (Carnaun?)  married Bridget Finn on 1st August 1872 in Kilshanny but I have been unable to find any evidence of this in any records I am able to access online. Can marriage records be accessed for this Parish?

I found birth entries for some children before they emigrated to NZ in 1876.

I believe Martin was probably the older brother of Patrick which I have seen from a previous post.

Thanks

regards

Kathryn

    Hi Kathryn,

Subscription site - www.rootsireland.ie - has a record of a Mary, 1870, Nora 1872,John 1874 and Bridget 1876. Parents: Martin Carrig and Bridget Finn. Parish: Kilshanny.

    I attach a Civil record for a Mary Carrig - www.irishgenealogy.ie - Free site.

There appears to be another "Martin Carrig" in Doolin parish who is married to a Mary Finn. I will check this out further and get back to you.

  • Hi Kathryn,

Baptism record for Bridget Carrig in Roots show the baptismal sponsors as: James O'Donnell and Mary Finn.

Civil record gives the mothers' name as Mary Finn. Possible error here?

Civil records for Mary Carrig and Bridget Carrig attached. No Civil record found for Nora 1872 or John 1874.

    Regards,

  • Kathryn,

No record found for Martin Carrig in Griffith's Valuations early 1850's.

There is a record for a Mary Finn in Carrowmanagh, parish of Kilshanny and a John Carrig in Ennistimon(Ennistymon) parish of Kilmanaheen.

John could be a family member of Martin?.

In the parish records for Kilshanny, Nora, John and Bridget are shown with the address "CARHAMANA" which appears to be a local spellinmg for "Carrowmanagh".  Record for Mary Finn attached.

    Regards,

  • Hello

Thank you so much for the information. This is wonderful. I suspect Bridget is Mary in the civil registrations.

Martin Carrigg's father was listed as Timothy and mother Bridget Tierney on his NZ death records. I found him in Timothy 1872 Civil deaths and Bridget 1897 Civil deaths.

I wasn't able to locate Timothy on the Griffiths Valuation in the 1850's.

    I really appreciate your assistance

    Regards

    Kathryn

  • Kathryn,
My 2nd great grandfather was Michael Carrigg, brother to your Martin and Patrick , of Kilshanny.
Michael moved to the US with his wife, Ann O'Connor. First to Boston, then to western NYS. I also found a sister, Marie" Mary", also in the US.
I would love to connect with you and your Aunt.
