The daughters of my GG grandparents, Anne Ryan 1839-1877 and Thomas Cochrane 1834-1895, Margaret Cochrane 1870-1960, my grandmother Ellen Cochrane 1871-1952 and Anna Cochrane 1875-1933 were all born and baptized in Castlecomer. For some time, they all went to boarding school in France. I would like to know what the name of the school might be.
I am not sure when they went to school in France or how long they went. It might have been that they were sent to boarding school when their mother died in 1877 or perhaps sometime in the 1880s. I know that Margaret came to the US in about 1886 and the other 2 girls came in 1891.
I know that there were Presentation Nuns in Castlecomer. Does anyone know if they had a Motherhoue or some other "French Connection" that the girls would have gone to? Were there other nuns, or a French order in or near Castlecomer so that the girls may have gone to one of their schools in France?
OF course if there is one of these schools I'd be curious to know whether the school is still around?
Thanks in advance for any ideas

Hi, From Anne's death in 1877, she was the Matron at the Workhouse and Thomas was the Chief resident officer.
In 1964 a cousin of ours was in a boarding school in France taught by Nuns, she was from Tipperary.
She over heard a conversation when she came back to Ireland for a holiday, she was 15 at that time, she was going to go back and become a Nun.
She didn't want to be a Nun. The night before she was due to leave, all bags packed and ready.
She ran away with all her bags and didn't come back until she was married. She wrote to say she was ok but never told them where she went.
Sorry I don't know where it was.

I m not sure if their family hoped that they would become nuns but none of these girls became nuns. Interesting thought.
