My Great Grandfather was Daniel Downes who was an immigrant to Australia arriving aboard the "White Star" in 1863 at age 23 years. His marriage certificate cites his parents as Timothy Downes and Catherine (illegible). He married Margaret Murray in 1866 in Australia and his stated age was 22 years so he may have been born somwhere in between 1840 -1844. If anyone can assist with details of his parents and siblings it would be greatly appreciated. Trish

Dear Trish:
Thank you for your query to the Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome to the site. If you are not familiar with the Clare Library website, you should definitely check it as there is a lot of very useful information in relation to genealogy research. For ease of reference, the link is here: http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/genealog.htm I note that your ancestor,Daniel Downes' father was Timothy Downes and I see from the Griffith's Valuation for Clare in 1855, that there was a Timothy Downes in Clonreddan, in the civi parish of Kilmacduane. This may or may not be a connection to you, but it is worth looking at more closely. The civil parish of Kilmacduane holds parish registers under its Catholic name of Cooraclare and they begin in 1853. The link is here: https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0777
We have some great volunteers in the West Clare area who may be able to assist you further and I will forward this post to them. Please give them up to 2 weeks to reply.
In the meantime, yoiu might consider creating an Ancestor Profile for Daniel Downes under the XO Chronicles tab at the top of the page. These profiles are another great way to connect with others who may also be researching the same family.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards,
Jane

Hi Trishjoh,
May be this is Timothy Downes (the father) only one in County Clare listed in Griffiths Valuation.
