I am trying to find my grandmother May (Mary Elizabeth Duffy) born circa 1903. Mother either Elizabeth or Sarah Duffy. Father listed on marriage lines as William James Duffy deceased. Sarah and Elizabeth listed in 1901 census as living in Ballybay, next shown in 1911 census in Gilford Co Down. May shown as border in 1911 census age 8 in Gilford with Elizabeth. Any assistance appreciated. regards Lynn

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I searched for civil birth records on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie for a Mary/May Duffy in the Castleblayney registration district from 1901-1905. I did not find any records with a father William Duffy. We do not have access online to Co. Monaghan baptismal records from 1900 on. I wanted to confirm that the father and the mother both were Duffys?

Roger I think it is possible that the father is unknown. I have the birth records for Sarah Duffy (daughter of Anne Jane Duffy born 1902) and there is no father listed. I cannot find anything for my grandmother May (Mary Elizabeth). On both Sarah's and May's wedding records their father is listed as William James Duffy, the late, but this may not be accurate. Sarah and May we believe are either half sisters or cousins. Sarah's mother Anne Jane Duffy and her sister Elizabeth are listed on the 1901 census as sisters living in Ballybay. By 1911 they are living in Gilford - my grandmother age 8 is listed as border with Elizabeth (now married to Beattie with a young daughter). Anne Jane and daughter Sarah are also resident in Gilford (in another house). Thank you for any help you can give.

Roger thanks for trying. Someday I'll come across a lead - I'll keep looking.
