Might you be able to help?

I live in the UK, currently researching my family tree and have spent some hours trying to source a Old Street Map of Fermoy, Cork and have yet to be successful.

Especially looking into the enclosed two addresses.

4.2 Walkers Row, Fermoy, Cork    in   1901

13 Bank Street, Fermoy, Cork        in   1911

Any assistance you can offer is appreciated.

  • This map is older than the one you seek, but it does show Walker's Row: https://digital.ucd.ie/view/ucdlib:40458

  • Hi Patricia,

Thank you for your time spent on this, I did find that particular map.

Once downloaded the image became blurry and I couldn't zoom in.

I have looked online more than one occasion and couldnt find anything else to help my research.

    Any suggestions I appreciate.

  • Probably worth mentioning that the house numbers in the censuses were not necessarily the correct postal address. They were the enumerator’s private numbering system (which varied from census to census).  Many houses in Ireland in those days had no house number. Your townland or road name (in a town) was sufficient to identify you or get a letter delivered. So 4.2 Walker’s Row for example will not be listed like that in any street directory or map.

  • Even today many houses in Ireland lack numbers.

  • Abbie,

On the mao that Patricia sent the link to Bank Street (Kent Street now) is the unmarked road from Patrick Street to Artillary Quay (now O'Neill Crowley Quay). Let me know if you are looking for something specific as I live in Fermoy.

    Best wishes, Kieran

  • Kieran Jordan,

Lovely to hear from you, just by reaching out and explaining Bank Street is now Kent Street. This is information I have tried to find out outline without any success, so thank you!

Map Patricia kindly commented on, I had found but proves difficult to download a clear image. I am surprised I could not find any alternatives.

I am now trying to get past and present photographs of Fermoy and ancestors Graves in Fermoy.

Should you happen to be aware of any useful websites please feel free to share your knowledge.

  • Abbie,

I have all the cemetery records for the main cemetery in Fermoy (Kilcrumper) so just let me know if I can look up anything for you, or send you some photos of headstones. I can also take phootos in Kent Street and O'Rahilly Row if you like. See this link for old photos of Fermoy and some maps: https://www.google.com/search?sxsrf=ALeKk03cZE7PUuTmdLf_nYPTDmKdoJaFFw:…

    Hi Kieran,

How kind of you to offer! Should you have the time I would appreciate a photograph or two re Kent Street and the pub called Crowleys.

I can only imagine Crowleys Pub was once apart of Bank Street before its street name got changed to Kent Street.

All I have been able to do so screen shot an image as seen on StreetView only. Seen attached.

Thank you again for your efforts and time spent helping me.

    Abbie,

See attached photo of Crowleys. It is a busy street and difficult to get a photo without a car!

There is no headstone for Lenihan/Lenehan or anything like that in historic Kilcrumper and as I say there are no burial records.

    Best wishes, Kieran

  • Abbie,

I just note from your first post that you are interested in 13 Bank (Kent) Street. Crowleys is number 14 and I am not sure where 13 is. Let me know if you are interested and I can look for number 13.

  • Kieran,
THANK YOU for going out of your way. It certainly is impossible for me to take any photographs as I live in England. I appreciate your kind assistance.

When you next visit Kent Street, if you do? Are you able to take similar photographs to the ones I have attached already as the quality is poor. By the way I would be thrilled to see a photograph of number 13 Kent Street, once known as 13 Bank Street. A photo of the property face on and another whereby you can see a neighbouring building either side. I can't thank you enough for your kind efforts.

  • Abbie,

There are Linehans buried in Old Kilcrumper, (as distinct from Historic Kilcrumper). They are Peter 1947, Bridie 1949 and a son Paddy interred in Australia; John (from Emmet Street) 1949; James 1959, Josephine 1977 (James and Josephine were from Lombardstown).

    Best wishes, Kieran

  • Hi Kieran,
    Lovely to hear from you.
    Thank you for your message.
    My ancestors were Barrett's.
Some of which died in Fermoy.
Perhaps I could trouble you to check your records?

Do you have access to Rootsweb? I am trying to find out where Richard Barrett Died in 1881. He married Mary Anne.

I will attached what little I know so far.
