Hello, The parish records shows that John Fenton and his wife Elizabeth McCrohan, had children named: THOMAS, PATRICK, BRIDGET and ELLEN, all baptised in Ballyferriter and living in Ballyickeen. I expect that Thomas married JOHANNA CONNOR in the church at Ventry in 1860, and tht as Thomas Fenton, his involvement in the Kerry Militia gave newspaper reports on his dealings with militia men who did not attend parades during his time as a Sergeant based at the Tralee Barracks. Thomas and Johanna's last son, THOMAS STEPHEN FENTON, born in Ireland was baptised in the Ballyferriter Parish records and lived at Ballyhickeen, before the family left for New Zealand in 1874. At least three of Thomas and Joahanna's childrens were baptised when he was serving and living at the Tralee Barracks, their names included, Elizabeth Ann, Mary Ann, Charles. I am also looking for a MICHAEL FENTON, who joined the Kerry Militia but he was mainly associated with County Cork, but his Attestation record showed that his Parish of Record was in Dunquin. The descendant of Michael Fenton, David Fitzsimmons, is my DNA relative. ancestry's DNA records show the DNA connections of my relative cousins descendants of Thomas and Johanna Fenton. From Margret Brands, nee Fenton, living in New Zealand, greatgranddaugter of Thomas and Johanna Fenton, who are buried in Waikumete Cemetery, Auckland, New Zealand, along with four of their children in nearby sites.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Have you looked at the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie which has Co. Kerry church records? I don't know what year Michael Fenton was born but I see a Michael Finaghty in 1815, Michael Fienaghty in 1817, Michael Finagly in 1823 and Michael Fenaghty in 1838 allin Ballyferriter RC parish which has alternate names such as Dunquin,Kilmelchidar and Marhin. The 1815 record (below) shows Ballyeekeen.
Let me know if you have questions.

Thank you, Roger McDonnell, for your prompt reply and information that has given me an idea.
The MICHAEL FENTON I am seeking, is the greatgrandfather of my DNA cousin, David Fitzsimmons.
On Michael's Release documents from the Army he declared that he was age 19 years when he had enlisted as a Volunteer in the Kerry Militia on 16 September 1859. He declared that he was born in the Parish of Dunquine and lived near to Dingle.
Michael served in Jabalapur, India, and his daughter Mary was born there. Michael and his family returned to England and there were two entries for Michael in the Census 1861 and 1871 for England as a soldier stationed at Aldershot. He lived with his wife and their children at Kinsale, Cork, Ireland and died at his Bandon Road home in 1899 age 58 years.
Thank you for your help. I am reckoning that the years of 1839 to 1842 are the range for searching for Michael Fenton; not knowing if he put up his age or reduced his age, + -.
From Margret, likely in a new pickle of trying hard to find out relationships
PS . A childhood legend about my father's grandmother, Johanna Fenton nee Connor was - the Connors were related to a King
