First Board Post - Researching roots of grandfather (McNicholas) from Townland of Rubble in Mayo

Here is the civil marriage record for John's parents Richard McNicholas and Margaret Deacy. The names of their fathers are shown on the record. The McNicholas family was from Lagcurragh townland in Kilconduff civil parish and the Deacy family was from Rubble.

Thank you, Roger for your attention on a Sunday. I have three questions. First, deaths of Richard and Margaret are both registered on 9/7/1912 but their deaths were 10/17/1911 and 7/24/1912 respectively. Are you aware of similar delays in other family records?  Second, the informant is listed as a son with initials j and t or f. Can you tell which ?  Third, I understood there were two catholic chapels in Killasser (Callow and Listernan) how can I determine where Richard and Margaret were married ?
Finallly, can you point me at sources post 1911 Census to look for information on my grandfather's siblings and their families and their migrations. Again, many thanks. Jack McNichols

No I have not seen similar delays in recording death records. There was a fine assessed if your were late registering a birth, marriage or death. I do know for births families that were late registering would give a wrong date for the birth in order to avoid the fine. That is why you sometimes see a baptismal date two months earlier than the civil birth date.

Not sure what happened but J. T. McNicholas finally got around to registering his mom's death and added his father at the same time.

I went to Google maps and Listernan is 2.4 miles from Rubble and Callow is 4.1 miles from Rubble so I would lean towards Listernan but it would all depend where the priest was and what other services were scheduled for that date and where.

Post 1911 sources online are not abundant. The best site is the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie where you can find births up to 1920, marriages to 1945 and deaths to 1970. The registration district is Swinford but there are many, many McNicholas records in that area.
