I am a descendant of Edward J Hartnett who was born in Killorglin and emigrated to America in the 1850s. I would love to connect with any of his descendants who remain in the area. A cousin of my mother's was there in the last few years and met some of Edwards descendants, our distant cousins. Thanks!

Minnesota_Hartnett:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I searched on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie and did not find an Edward Hartnett baptismal record in Killorglin RC parish. There were many Hartnetts in the parish just no Edward/Edmond/Edmund.
Was Edward born in the 1820s/1830s? There are about five Edward Hartnett baptismal records in other parishes. Any other information? Parents/Siblings?

Hello Roger, and thanks for your response!
I think that the birth date I have for Edward is wrong, though I do know that he died in the USA in 1879. My mother's cousin came to Ireland and did some genealogical research with a researcher he hired over there, and where we thought that Edward had been born in Bandon, County Cork, the researcher was able to determine that he moved there a year or two prior to moving to the USA, and was in the vicinity of Killorglin prior. But I need to connect with my mother's cousin to correct my date of birth, and perhaps the parish he was actually baptized in versus where he grew up. I will update my information here once I have those details figured out.
Thanks again for your response, I appreciate your assistance!

Hello again, Roger.
I was able to get some information. Apparently I had the date right. The reason Edward does not show up with a birthdate in 1818 is that his name was entered in the Killorglin church record with a Latin first name, which apparently was common. So, it was entered as an abbreviation of "Eduardus", but with some difficult penmanship, and is recorded as "Ewan," a name not really used (apparently), by people native to the region at that time. There IS an "Ewan" Hartnett entered with a birthdate in 1818, his father being listed as Patrick Hartnett, and the mother's name is listed as Margaret Buony, her father's name having been Moriarty. Apparently "Buony" was a "nickname" given to Moriartys of the Tulligbeg farm area at that time.
Of course, my big interest is in connecting with any of the Hartnett or Moriarty families still in the area who have any interest in connecting with distant cousins in America, and in learning about the history of the area since my ancestors left.

Edward had a twin brother James.

Yessir, that's correct. And I suppose trying to work forward from him might be a way to find people in Ireland who may be interested in connecting.

The 1852 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Killorglin civil parish https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/kerry/killorglin.htm has a number of Harnett and Hartnett records. Only one (Timothy) listed for Tullig Beg townland and I don't believe any Patrick or James records.
