    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

You don't mention the religious denomination but I will assume Church of Ireland. I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland which has some Church of Ireland records for Co. Waterford back to the 18th century. I did not find a baptismal record for William Hooks or any baptismal records for children of a William Hooks. I did find a 1771 marriage record in Youghal Church of Ireland parish. I did not know if Ann Sexton was his first wife.

  • Hello Melanie,

My third great granparents were William Hook, and Sarah Campbell. Their son William Hook born 1873, was my grandmothers grandpa, and lived with her in the US census, when she was a child, in Kearny, NJ. They were from Lappoges, Down Ireland. My grandma remembers him speaking Gaelic with other family members. My gradma had an uncle named Robert Hook born 1901. I know it's still a long shot, because every generation branches off to be thousands of people, and there are many Johns, Roberts, Williams, and Davids in my tree. Also the last name was spelled Hook, Hooks, And Hooke depending on the records. Once my family got to New Jersey it was Hook. My grandma was Barbara Jean Hook, her father was Frederick Martin Hook, His father was William, and his father was William. -Robin
