    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I located the civil birth record (civil registration started in 1864) and the family lived in Tully townland, Killeroran civil parish. (Last record on the page).

    https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…

I checked the 1901 census and did not see any evidence of the family.

I'm having difficulty finding online records for Killian/Killeroran RC parish. Here is the parish register up to 1882.  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0545

Let me know what questions you have.

Oh thank so much. My father had told me that the family at some point worked for the Ffrench family and I did see thier estate located west off Tully near The Roscommon area. Tully seems pretty far away? I am coming in May and would love some direction to continue to search. I will begin in Dublin for 4 days of research then to Cashel to research my Hogan family and up to Galway for the Burns and Stanton family. Any direction u can provide me would be great including consultation by professional people

  •        Thanks for making contact, I'm very familiar with the Tully area, it's located  on the banks of the majestic river Suck  which also serves as the country boundary between co Roscommon and Galway. Yes  the Burns lived in Tully inthe 1850s........were the Burns members of the Church of England.? Can u send me on any family info u may have ....it helps piece together the  family , the Stanton family lived close by all be it on the Talbot estates

To the best of my knowledge the Burns family was catholic but i only assume that as my grandfather Thomas Stanton and his siblings were raised in the catholic church. ( Bridget married John H Stanton he was born in Gakway on May 4 1857, i have seen a recird fir a Joannes Stanton on Ancestry that i believe may be him? My fathers memory was that the Burns family worked on the Ffrench Estate. He said that Bridgets father John Burns, i believe was in a position of managing the estate. Once his chikdren reached a certain age if there was no position on the estate they needed to find work elsewhere. Lore says that there was either an Aunt or sister in Boston that found work for domestics. Thats how Bridget came to Boston. She was a cook not a maid which was akways made quite clear to us. My father said that she did have family in Cambridge and Boston but he wasnt close to any of them and recall of names except Comboy is not in his memory. Bless him he's 97

I know even less about the Stantons exceot my great grandfathers naturalization papers say he's from Galway. His trade was a tobacconist  ( he made cigars) my father recalks a brothers Patrick Thomas and maybe a William. I know thats not much to run on. I’ll check my files this morning and update you.

Please know i an very grateful for anything you can find out. If its possible I woukd like to meet you when i am visiting.

    Thanks Again

  •    I will have a look at that info and see what I can come up with, I fo know that the srantons were on the opposite side of the river to the  burns , yes the Ffrench family had an estate close by and are all buried within a mile of Tully.  Are u sure the name is CoMboy, not CoNboy , this name is also common to this area , I have not herd of the CoM version, any detail on those

  • That's most likey correct Conboy. I wrote the name down as I heard my father pronouce it. My great Aunt wrote on the back of Marys picture Comboy but  now that I look at it , it's script not print so I'm sure it was my mistake.

  •  That's sounds logical, as there were and are  many CoNboy families in this area,  where ur ancestors originated from borders two distinct parishes that of  Killeroran (Ballygar) and Athleague parish which  comprises areas in both  County Roscommon and county Galway. Tully is located some 40 miles from Galway city. And only a mile from Ballygar town . Google both Ballygar and Mount Talbot Castle  , Aughrane castle the home of Denis Kelly the landlord......this will give u a pepspective of the  of my his unique area , home to ur ancestors ......u may email  me if u wish and I can send u on  copy's of records and pictures  of this area...........Email- timduke50@gmail.com.

  • There was a Honor Stanton/Staunton married to Patrick Connolly in Ballygar on the 7 feb 1891 so far i have found they had 3 children MARY born 1893, John born 1895, and Bridget born 1898.

    Honor's father was Thomas.
