My great grandfather Patrick Kane was born in Aughinish County Clare area about 1856. His father was Thomas Kane born abt 1834 and he was married to Catherine Costello (oe)? Supposedly Catherine died in Ireland before 1865. In 1865 Thomas came to the Geneva New York area with his sons because his sisters were already in that town and he had his small children to raise. I have found some Geneva NY info and Thomas Kane married again to a Mary Kane and they had children Mary C (Minnie) and Catherine V (Kate). My great grandfather Patrick ended up in Portland Maine where he married Ellen McAteer that came from Armagh.
I am trying to find other info about whether or not Thomas and Catherine had any other children besides Patrick because my family said they thought there were more sons than Patrick that came to the US with the father Thomas. I do not have any info about Thomas Kane or Catherine Costello's parents.

Dear Patricia:
Thank you for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out website and welcome.
The area of "Aughinish" is a townland and there are two parishes associated with it: Ogonnelloe and Oughtmama (Ballyvaughan). I checked the Ogonnelloe parish registers and there wasn't any family with those parents listed.
I then checked the registers associated with Ballyvaughan which are the New Quay registers. These are available to view (and download) for free on the Clare Library website.
I see that there are other children for Thomas Kean and Catherine Costelloe:
1. Patrick Kean born 27 February 1856, baptised 2 March 1856. Aughinish residence. Sponsors: Thomas McInerney and Maria Quinn. page 9 of register. (Parish register page reference (1854-1880)
Parents of Patrick are: Thomas Kean and Catherine Costelloe.
2. John Kean born 17 May 1862,baptised 21 May 1862. Aughinish residence. Sponsors: Fergus Keane & Honor Keane. page 31. (Parish register page reference 1854-1880)
His parents are: Thomas Kean and Mary Kean.
I would recommend that you take a look at the Oughtmama civil parish resources on the Clare Library website which also include the parish registers. There are other references that would be worth looking at. I believe that there were several Keane families residing in Aughinish and they might all be related. Here is the link for your reference: http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/places/oughtmama.htm
There is also a marriage record (church) reference to a Thomas Kean and Kitty Costelloe marriage dated 5 February 1855. Witness was Bridget Quinn and page 29 and entry number 74. This reference was transcribed from the marriage register which is also on the above link and can be downloaded.
Please get back to me if you need further assistance.
All the best,
Jane

Thank you Jane. Very interesting info on the clare library site. I do believe the Kean-Keane-Kane from Oughtmama is my family. I will be looking at more info on that site. I know Kitty is a nickname for Catherine and the names Kane are spelled differently in other info I have. Thank you again for the information. I had heard my great grandfather Patrick was born in a leap year so I looked up and the year 1856 was a leap year so that matches 27 Feb 1856. Patricia
