Margaret J. Knox is my GGG grandmother. She came from Convoy to the United States arriving on June 23, 1838 at Philaelphia on the ship Carouge with two sisters, Mary and Sarah. They also had a brother, Matthew who served in the Mexican - American War. They settled in Ohio for awhile. I can't find any info on their parents.
Margaret was born in Ireland. She came to Brown Township, Carroll County, Ohio sometime before 1840.
She married Matthew Carson on October 12, 1840, in Carroll County, Ohio. The couple remained in Brown Township, Carroll County, Ohio until 1860.

My GGGgrandmother, Margaret Jane Knox Carson's brother Matthew Knox was born circa 1817. I assume he was from Convoy because his three sisters stated this on the ship's manifest as being their residence. The sisters emigrated on the Ship Carouge arriving at Philadelphia on June 23, 1838. I am not sure when Matthew came. In the 1840 Census he was listed as residing in Brown Township, Carroll County, Ohio. He enlisted in the Mexican-American war in 1847 and was mustered out in 1848. In 1852 he was listed as being deceased on the military land warrant that his two sisters received for his military service. I can't find any death records. I would really like to find his ancestor's records in Ireland.
In the 1857 Griffith's Valuation, there is a Joseph Knox listed as living in Convoy (Craigs or Tommyscroft). This is the only Knox in that area. Seems that he must be a connection but I need proof.
They were probably Presbyterians.

Dear Dean:
Thank you for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome to the site!
We have a volunteer in that area and I will copy your query to him for any assistance that he may be able to give.
You might also take a look at the parish registers for Convoy. Convoy is in the RC parish of Raphoe. Those parish registers are online through the National Library of Ireland but they only begin in 1876.

You might also check the 1901 Census of Ireland for the surname of Knox.
There is a Knox household in Convoy in 1901.

In the meantime, one of our volunteers might be able to assist further with your query.
Many thanks for your interest in Ireland Reaching Out and the very best of luck with your research!
Kind regards,
Jane.
