I was able to get the birth certificate for my grandfather 1865 in Liscuell W but I am trying to find if there other today around the area. On the birth certificate it listed Shoughnesey with the parents Mary Connelly and Thomas Shoughnesey while the marriage certificate in the States has it as Shaughnessy.

Great work! I kept looking for the 1865 record for Thomas and could not find it. Obviously, I did something wrong with my search. Have a great Christmas season!

I attached the birth certificate in Ireland and the Marriage information in Illinois. The odd part is in searching the Irish Civil Records I can see they correspend based on their parents. This also surprised the family who thought he was born in Illinois, which there was never a record stating that. All the other family members spelled the name Shaughnessy not Shoughnesey and in the States he spelled it Shaughnessy. It took well over 25 years to get the certified birth certificate (it is nice to see microfilm on the internet!).

Thanks! The John Shaughnessy is definately a brother since the parents were Thomas and Mary (Connelly)! Thomas was married in 1909 in Illinois but I cannot locate any immigration documents. What is also confusing is his spelling when he was born was Shoughnesey, I cannot quite figure that out. In either Thomas (my grandfather) was born inIreland. The clerk in Pontiac, Illinois has no record of him born in Illinois.

There are still Shaughnessys in the area. Some of them moved from Lisquell, Ballinamore Bridge, to Newbridge, this would be a distance of about 5 to 6 miles. A number of families were moved round 1915 to 1920 , whne the Land Commission was distributing/redistributing land farms. A sShaughnessy family, who originally came from Lisquel are living on the road between Newbridge and Ballinamore Bridge.
