Several years ago XO volunteers found the link to my grandfather's Irish birth certificate and I subsequently acquired Irish citizenship.  In November 2019 I went to Ireland, and a wonderful volunteer had done more research for me which included a sibling of my grandfather that I had not known about.  She had also found birth record information for his other siblings.  She also took me to the Freemount cemetery in Kerry near Rathmore where my ancestors are buried - a

Since then, sporadically, I have been trying to find more documents for my grandfather's brothers.  Here's the information I have:

1-Great-Grandparents: Jeremiah Moynihan DOB 23/10/1837, DOD 12/16/1916; Margaret Scannell Moynihan DOB probably 1835, DOD 16/12/1909; married 5/02/1861 - I have documents for this information - except for an actual marriage certificate, which I know may not be available; witnesses: Matthew Reen & James Ryan; married Sheans Rathmore - volunteer gave me all of this information

2- Their children: Michael DOB 11/1/1862-this is also shown as the baptism date with sponsors Florence Scannell & Catherine Minihan, DOD unknown; Timothy DOB 27/1/1864 DOD 19/8/1944 -I have his wife's name, her death and he was the informant on the death registrations for both is parents. Have the record of his burial in Freemount Cemetary & I also know that one of his nephews lived with him in later years. I've been told that he came to the US with my grandfather in 1891 but later returned to Ireland probably in 1897 - but haven't found any record of his return.   John, DOB 1870 - my grandfather - so have all the records for him.  Patrick DOB 17/3/1873 DOD unknown, other than birth & baptism with sponsor, Margaret Spillane, have found no other information. Jeremiah Moynihan DOB 23/1/1875, DOD unknown, have marriage record to Catherine (Kate) Moynihan 15/2/1912, whose parents were Cornelius Moynihan & Nora Shea, they had 2 sons - Mic (Michael) DOB 5/8/1915 DOD ?/5/1987 & Con (Cornelius) DOB 1921 DOD 1978, have Kate's death registration but have found nothing else for Jeremiah.

I have searched the Irish government genealogy website numerous times and can't find any records for my grandfather's brothers (except for Jeremiah as shown above) - even though the XO volunteer gave me the above information and FamilySearchdotOrg has the sketchy information with no documents attached.  They apparently all lived in the Freemount-Rathmore area all of their lives, were laborers and/or farmers according to the records I have found and Timothy is in the 1901 and 1911 censuses.  So wondering if you have any suggestions for finding more records for Michael, Patrick, & a death registration for Jeremiah - he, I have been told, also came to the US with my grandfather and Timothy and also returned to Ireland - wouldn't there be a government record of returning citizens in 1897?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/information you can give me.

Very happy to see you were able to get your Irish citizenship.

I don't have a lot of good information for you. I did search the www.irishgenealogy.ie site and found some possible leads. Two points about that site. First, the search routines are fairly rigid with spellings of surnames. So if any records were spelled with a variant spelling of the surname, the record may not come up when you search with Moynihan. Second, in the later 1900s many people died in County Homes or Hospitals. Sometimes the townland of the deceased would be shown but other times no mention of the townland.

I did find the death record for Timothy. I was not sure from your message whether you had that record. Looks like Jeremiah's son Con was the nephew.

    eighth record  Timothy 1944

    https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…

I located two possible death records for Jeremiah.

    last record   https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…

    sixth record  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…

I'm wondering if Michael and Patrick deid young and there is no record of their death. If Michael died in infancy before 1864, no civil record would be available.

You mention that you have Timothy in the 1901 census. Could you share that record?

Your question about records of people returning back to Ireland is difficult. I did locate the record of the return of my grandmother to Ireland in 1913. Not sure where i found the record but it may have been on Ancestry (World subscription). I think finding records back in 1897 would be difficult. I will keep looking.

Let me know what questions you have.

    Roger,

    Thanks for your reply.

The first link in your message was not the Timothy death record but death record for a Jeremiah in 1942 at a county home in Killarney - this is very probably the correct Jeremiah - it shows him as married and his wife Kate would have been alive in 1942.  The other Jeremiah record 1950 death - second link in your message - has a middle initial of 'A' and my grandfather and his brothers' birth/baptism registrations had any middle initials.

The third link in your message was the same Jeremiah 1942 record.

I did find the death Registration for Timothy though:https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details-civil/f43d…

I was mistaken about having Timothy in the 1901 Ireland Census -  we've been told that he was in the US until about 1906/7, looked for his wife, Nora, in the 1901 census but haven't found her.  I do have Timothy in the 1911 census:

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kerry/Rathmore/Freemou…

Also found Timothy & Nora's 1902 marriage registration.

As Michael was born in 1862 guess there would be no civil record if he died in the first few years after birth - I did search church records and civil for a 10-year time span, but found nothing that could be him.  For Patrick, born in 1873, I found a couple of infant death records but the attached pdf is the only one that could be him as the place and age are correct but informant wasn't  either parent so can't be sure.

Haven't been able to find a definite ship record for my grandfather's departure from Ireland either - have one for 1891-the Servia -  to New York but the manifest doesn't show his brothers Timothy - who a distant cousin I met in Ireland told me went to the US with him and then returned, and Jeremiah who an aunt told me came with him and then returned.  So might be at the end of finding any more information.

    Thanks for your assistance
