Hello John, this site basically only deals with genealogy over 100 years or as recorded on the Irish Genealogy site. However there are a number of Galway Facebook pages, private pages and ask to join, there is probably more chance there of finding out about actual local living people etc I am on some of them and they are well moderated and friendly.
Good Luck

Hi John, not related that I am aware of but I have distant Galway ancestors and the names turn up in DNA matches but so do lots of other names. The reason we do not do recent or within a 100 years is that people who are alive might not be happy, that said you should be able to find your grandfathers death records and entry on this free Irish Government site, deaths until 1970 from about 1870 but shortly to be from 1864 the start of civil registration, you can see marraiges until 1941 and births until 1919 I think, https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ Click on Civil (church records are not in for the area) and sign in it is free.
The Galway Facebook page is Galway Genealogy, there are others based on local areas such as West Galway Genealogy and also Clonbur area also, just pop the name in the search box, it is often worth trying an area in the search as often local areas have pages dealing in various issues.
Good Luck

Hi John, if you post on the thread she should get a notifying email, I stll get notifications from posts five years ago, the notifying emails are done about every 25 hours, currently about 0200 hours Irish time, if you want to exchange emails are concerned about posting in a public forum you can use mine which is my site mail stpeters@irelandxo.com and if Maria does the same I will mail you both back so ye have your mails in private. I have done it a few times and most people prefer to use it that way.
My address comes from the parish I volunteer for which is in Louth just in case you think it is my name!!!!!
Regards
