Hello,
I am researching my great grandmother Mary Hartigan and possibly her father or brother Martin Hartigan.
The information I have is Mary Hartigan possible DOB 14 May 1840 or the year 1829 is on her cemetery marker. She was married in Buffalo, New York USA to a Christopher Farrell (first child born in 1858 in Buffalo NY), no definite marriage date or location. Mary Hartigan Farrell passed away in Buffalo NY on 3 April 1910 buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Buffalo NY. On her death certificate her birthplace is Ireland (no city, town, or county), father's name (name smeared on copy) is Jo or Jms Hartigan Birthplace Ireland, mother's name shown as don't know Birthplace Ireland.
Martin Hartigan is buried with the Farrell family in Holy Cross Cemetery in Buffalo NY and the dates on the marker is 1801 - 1871, I requested a copy of his death certificate and due to the early date little to no information is shown. Due to the dates on the marker I believed Martin was Mary's father then I found his death notice in the Buffalo newspaper - In this City, on Sunday, Oct 29, 1871, Martin Hartigan, aged 68 years. Funeral from the residence of his brother-in-law, Christopher Farrell, No 17 Hayward street, on Tuesday, Oct 31st, 1871, at 9 o'clock AM. . Martin resided on all state and federal census' with Mary, Christopher and family.
The first census either of them are found on is the 1860 federal census, Martin, Mary married to Christopher with 2 children.
I did locate a passenger list with an arrival 26 June 1849, departure - Limerick, Ireland ship - Oregan arrival - New York, New York USA listing a looks like Maurice Hartigan 23, male, farmer, leaving Ireland arriving in the USA and a Mary Hartigan 20 female listed together.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
