My GG Grandmother was Mary Duane, b: 1808, Ireland. I have been searching for any information on her for quite some time without success (decade +). I just recently found a baptismal record for a Mary Duane in Co Kerry, Castlemaine Parish, with an address of Boolteens. The father listed on the certificate is Denis Duane and the mother is Ellen Shea. The baptism date was November 1808. Coincidence maybe, but a lead worth following.
Any information on this Duane family would be greatly appreciated. According to my family records, my GG Grandfather (Parick Sheehy b: 1807) married a Mary Duane and had six children. My previous searches were focused in County Limerick, but there were always rumors (famiy lore) about County Kerry.
The Parish listed on the certificate is "Castlemaine", which doesn't appear to exist. I am going to guess that the correct Parish is "Castleisland"?
Thanks in advance,
Bob Sheehy

Hello Bob, my name is Jennifer Jean and I have just noticed your message. I am not the volunteer who would normally pick up a query for this area but while I pass it on, I thought that I would mention to you that there certainly is a Castlemaine and a beautiful place it is too. It borders on the fabulous Killarney. So this informatyion may help with your enquiries while we find the person to look after you.
I do hope that you don't mind my interfering in the interim and someone will be in touch with you shortly.

Dear Bob,
There is a Castlemain and a Castleisland. They are about 20km apart. Here is a listing of Castlemain townland in the civil parish of Kiltallagh. http://sites.rootsweb.com/~irlker/kiltallagh.html.
Take a look at the othertownlands and see if any were mentioned by your ancestors. I did not find any Duanes in Castlemain in that time period. Most records do not go back further than 1820 or so. I checked Castleisland records between 1800 and 1830 and only found a marriage of a Denis Reidy and Mary Dwane in 1828.
Castleisland is a Civil Parish (NOT A TOWNLAND) and NOT to be confused with a religious parish. Here are the townlands in Castleisland. Take a look http://sites.rootsweb.com/~irlker/cisland1.html.
Any further search would have to be done in the Religious Parish records that are not accessable online with the permission of the local clergy (RC or COI) if they have any.
I normally volunteer for the Dingle area and points West.

Thank you so much for the replies, and they are greatly appreciated. Every little bit of information keeps me pointed in the right direction. Shortly after I posted my initial quesiton, I made contact with an ancestor of that Duane branch, who also straightened me out on the Castlemaine. Base on their information, the Mary Duane in the baptismal certificate is not the same as my GG Grandmother. So I will continue my search.
Once again, thank you for the replies. It all helps.
Regards, Bob
