Hi, my great grandfather Hugh McGee was born 1835 in Clonfeacle. His parents were Patrick McGee and Sarah Conway. He had several brothers and sisters. Hugh went to Scotland and had family. Was wondering if the rest of his siblings remained in Clonfeacle?

Hugh,
I can see Hugh’s baptism in the Clonfeacle registers. However it doesn’t give a townland. Do you know where they lived within the parish? Also do you know when Patrick & Sarah died, plus Patrick’s occupation? You might get all that from Hugh’s marriage certificate in Scotland, as it should say whether they were alive or dead at that date.

Hi Elwyn, Hugh was married here in 1869. Patrick and Sarah are both alive and Patrick's occupation is labourer. The last sibling to Hugh was Terence born in 1848. All I know is Clonfeacle.
Thanks again.

Statutory death registration started in Ireland in 1864 so if both Patrick & Sarah were alive in 1869 it ought to be possible to find their death certificates. Clonfeacle parish is spread across 2 civil registration districts: Dungannon & Armagh. I wen through the death indexes for both for the years 1869 to 1901. I found just one for a Sarah McGee of around the right age. Her death was regd in 1872 in Armagh aged 71. Patrick is a more common name. I found: 4.11.1870 aged 60, Armagh, 3.2.1881 aged 85, Armagh, 31.7.1881 aged 82, Dungannon, & 16.3.1882 aged 78 Dungannon. You can view the original certificates on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option:
You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate.
I looked for a marriage for Terence McGee in the Armagh/Dungannon area but couldn’t see one. Nearest was 28.11.1877 in Fermanagh to a Ms O’Brien. I also looked for Terence McGee/Magee in the 1901 census born Armagh/Tyrone but there were none.

Hi Hugh,
I'm looking for my McGee's also. Do you have a Gedmatch number? My 2x great grandfather was Patrick McGee. His son John was my great grandfather.
Thanks,
Teresa
