I would like to find out more about the family of my ancestor Ellen McLaughlin from Co Donegal. She was the child of William McLaughlin & Mary Deery / Deeney born in 1873 in Drumanaught, Convoy and she had at least 2 sisters, Mary Ann & Catherine.

Hello Miriam
Great to hear from you & thanks for the information & the links, I have already printed then off to put with the growing pile!.
We do have some information about the family but equally some gaps.
Mary Ann married Andrew McClea/Cley in Derry & they were there in the 1901 & 1911 census. They appeared to move between Derry & Donegal according to the birthplaces of their children. in their 1901 census there is a Rose McLaughlin, a spinster aunt & housekeeper, who must have been a sister of William but she is not there in the 1911 census. Her birth date would be approx 1846
Catherine is with Mary Ann in the 1911 census & has her daughter Cassie with her. We believe Catherine had about 4 children but not all survived. She was still living in Manorcunningham in 1953 when her sister Ellen died. Mary Ann was already dead at this time but currently I have no further information on her death although think seh was in the Belfast area.
I'm visiting Ireand in about 3 weeks & hope to visit the area. I plan to contact the priest in Glenswilly to see if I can disciver if William & Mary are buried in the churchyard there,
Any further information would be gratefully recieved
Regards
Eileen

Hi Miriam
Many thanks for this.
If it was possible to meet with a local volunteer this would be really nice.
I will be meeting up with my sister & she will with me when we visit. Her youngest daughter may come as well although she had a lot of ffamily committments so may not be able to make it.
This is a special journey for us as it is fulfilling our mother's greatest wish to find out about her roots; she never knew her mother or anything about her family. This is the 30th year since her death, so as you can see it is a lifelong wish at last coming to fruition.
