The 1820 Tithes lists for Lahensy show a number of McMahon's. Although there are 8 McMahon men listed, looking at the actual record show three together: Andrew, Austin and Thomas. The one I am interested in is Austin, which does not seem to be a very common name. My great, great grandfather was Austin McMahon born 1832-5. He immigrated to the US and all the information I have on the family is taken from census records. I am hoping some one might be able to offer ideas where I might find his birth or maybe a marriage - hopefully with a parent(s). If anyone reading this thinks we are related, I am happy to share what turns out to be a large family in New York. Thanks in advance, Ellen

Hi Ellen,
No reply has been sent to your post of February 13th 2021. The Lahinch records are not yet available, but may be in early 2021!
Source: Irish Genealogy News. I have checked the property records for Lahinch area which were taken c1853. There is a Thomas McMahon recorded for Ballingaddy West.
You questioned the origin of the name Austin. This name comes from "Augustine". There is the church of St. Augustine North of Ennistymon on the road to Lisdoonvarna.
You might get as much information as you can from relatives in the USA. This will help to identify locations of land holders. Griffith's Valuations can be downloaded at www.askabout.ireland.ie - Free site
Best Wishes,

Hello Ellen, I also have a great great grandfather named Austin McMahon. I have him born in clare in 1825 and married to Maragaret Dempsey. Immigrated to the US and settled in Binghamton NY. Their daughter Bridget married James Nealon(could be Neylon or Neylan). Their son Frank is my grandfather.
Not sure if we have the same Austin or not but would be great to hear from you. Did you do an Ancestry dna test? I did so we could compare if you like.
Looking forward to sharing if applicable!
