Hello everyone, in 2014 I posted a request if anyone had any information on my Great Grandfather Michael Bain, but as of today there has been no record found. I have his marriage and death certificates from South Africa but I cant trace his roots. According to his death certificate he was born in Tipperary in 1814 to Joseph Bain and M.Bain, that is the only details I have on him. I have no idea when he arrived in South Africa and the earliest record is his marriage to Maria Fancutt (nee Talbot) in 1844. At the same time and place an Eliza Bain (Elizabeth Ann) married Benjamin Hall. It looks like Michael signed as a witness for her so I presume they may be related.
My other Great Grandfather Robert Francis Talbot was also presumuably born in Tipperary or Dublin in 1842 to William Henry Talbot and Hannah Mary Watts, I have no idea exactly where he was born, however I have a Royal Navy entry for him and his marriage certificate. He mentioned in his memoirs that his father died in 1858 and it seems like his mother died in 1846 again there is no proof. He had a sister Jean and possibly a brother Samuel, again no definite records.
I have included the certificates
If anyone can help it would be great appreciated.
Many thanks, Rob Talbot

Thanks Margot, I will have a go at finding it, much appreciated. These gentlemen have been a brick wall for so many people for so long, it makes me wonder if they even exsisted.

Hi Rob
I have just returned from Ireland seeking information on my Talbot's. DNA and investigations have lead me to Laois and Tipperary. I also now know I have Talbot's from these areas that immigrated to South Africa. I believe we have the same line, though the Talbot's i'm seeking information on are a bit earlier than yours, though I believe they are descendents. I'm actually in contact with Talbot's that left Laois and Tipperary for South Africa.
The names indicated are also family names I see regularly
Thanks,
Wendy Talbot
