Michael Connor
b. 1828 in Killorglin Co, Kerry came to Australia as a soldier in the 11th regiment of the British Army in 1849. ( During the Irish Famine). He lived at Victoria Barracks in Sydney NSW and married Bridget Ryan from Trim Co Meath in Sydney 1856. We have not been able to obtain a military record for Michael as what ever exists can only be found at Kew, England. We do know that he enlisted with the regiment in Cork in 1849.
If his parents observed naming patterns it's possible that they were John Connor and Mary possibly born around 1800.
We have evidence of Michael's life, occupation, court hearings children’s births, marriages, death and some residences in Australia but absolutely nothing in Ireland. Several descendants have attempted to research this ancestor without success. I would be interested to discover any details of his journey to Australia and who his parents were. He was apparently a musician (uillean piper) and a boot / shoe maker and a warder at Darlinghurst prison.. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
