Hi,

just wondering if anyone can help me. I have a Michael Moloney who travelled to Aust (not sure when)  and married in 1886.

All I have is his Marriage cert saying his parents were Patrick & Hanora (Wren) Moloney. He was from County Clare.

His Death Cert states a different age compared with his Marriage cert, so I dont have a definate year he was born, as it is 10 yrs difference. (marriage cert 35yrs old in 1886) (death cert  75 yrs old in 1915)

He had a brother Denis, who came to Aust in 1861 and married 1862, 28 yrs old, so there is a big difference in age for the brothers.. His marriage cert only says County Clare as well.

I can find no trace of parents Patrick and Hanora Moloney in Ireland or here in Australia.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have in the past,  paid 2 "researchers" who sadly took my money but had no information for me. I am a little apprehensive to do this again.

Many thanks for your time.

Carol.

  • Dear Carol:

Thank you for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board.  I would recommend that you visit the Clare Library website which has a large amount of online resources pertinent to Clare genealogy.  New material is added continuously and it is worth keeping an eye out for anything related to the area that you believed that they had emigrated from.  The website link is here:  http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/genealog.htm.

You might also consider creating an Ancestor Profile for family members as there may be other researchers who are also connected to this family who have further information.  You can create a profile by clicking on the XO Chronicles tab at the top of the page.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.  The best of luck with your research.

    Kind regards,

    Jane
