Looking for information on Michael O'Connor & Hannah (Johanna) Tolbert/Talbert. Three of their children - Daniel, James & Mary - were baptized in Caherciveen in the 1850's. My great grandmother, Anna O'Connor, born around 1861 is not listed at this church nor is her older sister, Kate, born around 1847. Kate & Anna immigrated to Philadelphia in 1875. Anna married William W. Campbell from Cape May, NJ. and Kate married James Fedigan from Ireland. In Kate's obituary her parents were listed as being from Tralee so may have moved there later. Would love to find any descendants still living in Ireland. Have connected with Mary O'Connor's descendants who are in Australia.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I searched on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie which has Co. Kerry church records. I was unable to find any baptismal records for children of Michael O'Connor and Johanna/Hannah Tolber/Talbert. Can you let me know where you located the records for Daniel, James and Mary in Caherciveen? Thanks!

Hi Roger,
I did find the baptismal records for those children on Irishgenealogy.ie in the Cahir parish. The parents are listed as Michael Connor and Johanna Talbert which is why I knew they were the siblings of my great grandmother. I also found Mary Connor's marriage to Bart Moriarty from Cahir in 1873. At that time Mary is listed as living in Boherbee. She and Bart then immigrated to Australis in 1875. The same year that Kate & Anna went to Philadelphia. I've hit a wall in my search for Michael & Johanna and also the baptismal records for Anna & Kate.Since Kate may be the oldest and Anna the youngest they may have lived in a different parish. Also, the fact that 3 of them left Ireland the same year makes me wonder if something had happened to the family - possibly the death of one of the parents, etc. Any assistance you can give would be greatly appreciated.

I went back to www.irishgenealogy.ie and researched. I was searching on Michael Connor with a secondary surname of Talbert. However, none of the Connor children baptismal records had Michael's last name so none of the records came up. I researched under Johanna Talbert and actually found five records. There were two James's records (1847 and 1858) so the 1847 James died young. I also found a Margaret in 1851. See below. The Caherciveen baptismal records start in November 1846 https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0658 so it is possible that Kate was baptized before November 1846. The register is in Latin so possibly the transcriber for www.irishgenealogy.ie missed the record for Anna.
Can't tell if you have a copy of the civil marriage record but it does show that Michael Connor was still alive in 1873 https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1873/11282/8139059.pdf
www.irishgenealogy.ie has death record images from 1878-1941 You could search in the records for the Caherciveen registration district to see if you can locate the death record for Michael.

Roger,
Thank you so much for this information. I didn't have the civil marriage record for Mary. Just the one from the church. It has Michael listed as a slater. What is that? Also, I think I had seen Margaret on Irish Genealogy but wasn't certain since they have her mother named as Joan Talbot but you think this is my Johanna Tolbert? I notice that the records say Tralee. Is that why Tralee would have been given as the former residence of Michael & Johanna in Kate's obituary? I am sure the information was provided by her sister, Anna, but I started searching the churches in Tralee proper and couldn't find them. It's also interesting that apparently both Mary & Bart were illiterate since they signed with an x. This area was extremely poor at that time, wasn't it? It breaks my heart to think of how difficult their lives must have been but they did all land on their feet in America and Australia. I'm going to share this info with my Connor cousins in Australia.

A slater is someone who made slate roofs.
I think Margaret was one of the siblings of Michael and Johanna. I have seen Joan and Joanne for Johanna.
Looks like the Connor family migrated from Caherciveen to Tralee possibly for work. Mary and Bart were likely "dating" and possibly engaged in Caherciveen and after she went to Tralee, he followed her for the marriage. Note his home is listed as Caherciveen.
