Hello All, I believe I am related to John Moloney who married Bridget O'Grady/Grady sometime in the 1850-1860's (marriage record not found). Their children were John 1862, Mary 1864, Margaret 1866, Patrick 1867, Bridget 1869, Sarah 1871, Michael 1873, Timothy 1875, Edmond/Edward 1876, Anne 1878, Daniel 1881. All born Annicarriga or Ogonnelloe, Scarriff, Co. Clare. I found on the 1901 Ireland Census John age 70, Bridget age 58, John age 30, Timonty age 28, Daniel age 18, Seragh age 23 at O'gonnelloe, Caher, Clare. I have found a death for John Snr 1906 at Annicarriga, Clare age 77. I also found on the 1911 Ireland Census John Jnr age 50, Bridget age 72, Timothy age 39, Daniel age 30. I have found a death for Bridget (mother) in 1918 age 77.
I'm trying to find out what happened to the farm and who it went to and also what happened to the children and who they married. I know that Edmond/Edward emigrated to New York in 1902 and married there in 1904 to Mary E Walsh. I would be very interested in knowing if any of this family emigrated to Australia.
I believe on the Griffith Valuation of 1855 John Moloney is in the Parish of Killaloe in the Townland of Carrownakilly and there is also a Matthew Moloney and a Timothy Moloney (not sure if these are related family).
It would be great to have contact with any living family that might be still there.
Thanks for any help given
Gail

Hello Gail,
The Moloney family did live in Annacarriga, O'Gonnelloe. The marriage of John Moloney and Bridget O'Grady was not recorded in our records as Bridget was probably from outside our parish and they would have been married in her church and the marriage registered there. The farm in not in the Moloney family now and is owned by different people and there are no decendants in the parish. Tim got the home farm and married Mary Minogue from Scariff. They had no family. Tim purchased a horse at the Scariff fair and about a month after was out on the road training him when the horse ran away and Tim got killed, this would have been in the late 1940's. His wife was always known locally as Mary Tim and she died in '52-'53. I will be able to get accurate dates for those deaths later.
Margaret married Thomas Cuneen from near Clonlara, Co Clare on 25th Feb 1911, and i believe it was her son who sold the farm.
If I can locate any more information I will send it on.
Regards, Michael McNamara, O'Gonnelloe

Hello Michael,
Thank you so much for looking into this for me. What a tragic accident Timothy had and how terrible that would have been for his wife. Sadly they had no children. I am hoping you still may be able to find what happened to the other children if at all possible. I appreciate all the help you have given to me and can't thank you enough. If Margaret married Thomas Cuneen in 1911 I was wondering if that was a 2nd marriage as she would have been about 45 years old then and possibly the son who sold the farm was from a 1st marriage (maybe). I might be able to find the marriage and look into that myself.
Anyway, thank you very much Michael for your help so far. Look forward to hearing from you if you find more.
Regards

Hello Michael,
I was wondering if you were able to find any more information, dates etc regarding the Moloney family for me. Also, were you able to see the rate book for the farm the Moloney's were on and if so, can you tell me the names the farm changed to over the time until it was sold.

Hello,
While searching for family information via Google, your post came up. I'm not sure if this is just a strange coincidence (I know everyone in Ireland seems to have the same names - I feel bad for the Post Office trying to deliver mail) but I've been searching my Grandfather's information. He was John J Moloney - his birth certificate say Annacarriga, Scarriff, born in 1879 to Patrick Moloney and Catherine Byron. The family lived in Carhubane / later changed to Carrowbaun, Killaloe, Co. Clare. There were 11 children and the oldest was Timothy - born in 1868. I'm from Chicago and my grandfather, John came here in the early 1900's, as did a sister, Mary, and brothers, James, Michael, and Matthew. The others stayed behind in Ireland.
Timothy is listed on the 1911 Census as "farmer's son" I didn't have a date or any other information about him which is why I was using Google. One of his sister's name was Margaret Moloney born in 1873 and she married a Thomas Cunneen (I'm not sure of the year) and they lived in Clonlara on a small farm. They had a daughter, Nora, and three sons Patrick, Joseph, and Thomas.
I did visit Ireland back in 1979 and met Paddy Cunneen and his sister, Nora Hayes (both have since passed away) though there are living relatives still there. Regretfully, I never wrote any information as I was young and it didn't seem important at the time.
One of my letter's from Nora, sent to me in 1981, tells of a Moloney brother, (name not mentioned) who stayed in Ireland and was training a horse. Something happened and he got killed by the horse. I've always thought that was Timothy because they said he didn't have any descendants. I don't know who or if he was married.
The years are slightly different, perhaps and the Maloney marriages, but the stories about Timothy and Margaret sound like my family story. Sometimes the name is spelled Maloney (all of them changed to Maloney when they came to Chicago) Just wondering if there's a connection.

Hello Linda Green
I have only just seen your reply to my message.
Wow, I just read your message. I posted the original message a few years ago about John Moloney and Bridget O'Grady.
I would love more contact with you. I am related through the Moloney line and have done quite extensive research on my family.
My 2 x Great Grandmother was Margaret Moloney and was born circa 1833. She married John Nelson (I have not found their marriage) and they lived in Moynoe, Scariff, County Clare. Because of shared DNA matches, I think Patrick Moloney and Margaret Moloney were siblings.
I do hope to hear from you regards this soon.

Hello Gail,
If he's related then Patrick Moloney would be my great grandfather whom I'm guessing was born around 1828 but not sure when he died. His youngest, Matthew was born in 1888 and in the 1901 census, his wife, Catherine (Kate) is listed as Widow. According to the Irish way of naming, he very likely would have had a sister, Margaret. I don't know if it's the same Margaret as yours, but I'm sure they're related. I found other Moloney's in Killaloe in Carhubane/Carrowbaun from the Clare Library Genealogy section: http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/1901census/carrowbau…; Hello Gail,
As you can see from the census, there's many possibilities that all are cousins. My Maloney also has Killaloe Ryans and Gannon's through some of the female marriages as they came to Chicago and stayed with my grandfather listed as "Cousin" John or his brother James. Timothy was the oldest son born in 1868. Also left behind in Ireland was another Mary (two Mary's were listed as being born to this couple but it could have been Mary Pat or Mary Ann or something) One Mary married a Patrick Conway and died in Chicago during childbirth in 1908 but I don't know what happened to the other Mary. There was also a Patrick born March 6, 1875 and I don't know what happened to him either. Also a Judy/Johana born in 1871 and died in 1947 (never married) My great Aunt Margaret (born May 7, 1873) married Thomas Cunneen in June, 1911. Their great grandchildren are very much alive in the Clonlara area but they're not much interested in genealogy and I had to search from the little information they gave me but I probably found out more information than they knew! There's a little more that I know but just trying to make sure it's the right branch.
Hoping this helps and you can email me at this address: lagreen10@aol.com

Hi, I can't tell from the information you have given. Perhaps Linda is better placed to answer you on this one. My Margaret Moloney married John Nelson and they lived in Scariff in County Clare. They also died there as well. I have not found their marriage but suspect that Margaret Moloney did not come from Scariff originally. All their children were baptised in Scariff. I think Margaret Moloney would have been born around 1830. My email is sgb271935@tpg.com.au if you think I can answer more of your questions. Regards Gail

Hello, You haven't given a name, but I don't have the siblings of Margaret Moloney. I only know she would have been born about 1833. If you want to email me on sgb271935@tpg.com.au to talk more about your side and what you know, I will try to help if I can. Have you tested your DNA and if so, where?
