John was the son of Patrick Dwyer and Johanna Casey and he had a brother, Daniel Dwyer. John's father Patrick had been married first to Julia Brennan (died by 1819) and they had a son, Michael Dwyer, John and Daniel's half brother. Both marriages could have had other children.
John Dwyer had been married with children living in Killorglin area. His wife and chhildren died in the famine and all 3 of the Dwyer brothers decided to emigrate to the Boston area about 1851-54. John, Daniel and wife, Julia, Michael and wife Catherine McGillicuddy and children all settled on the same street in Medford, MA filled with other immigrants from the Killorglin area (names such as Shea, McGillicuddy, Kane, Sullivan).
After John arrived in Boston, he married Catherine Sagerson (??spelling-Sigerson, Saggerson, Sugerson) also from Kerry. Catherine was the daughter of John Segerson and Mary Hussey (parents probably born about 1800.) Names of Catherine's parents have been verified on their death certificates.
My problem: How to find which Sigersons and Dwyer family my relatives are from?? What area are they from? I am coming to Killorglin in late June and would like to see the area where they lived, but can't narrow down the Townships. I have researched Ancestry but can not find a birth cert for either John or Catherine showing the correct parents for each.
Griffiths lists many Dwyers all living near a Daniel Dwyer or a Michael Dwyer or in close proximity to Patrick Dwyer--but how do I know shich one is "my John Dwyer"? There are John Dwyers in Kilcrohane, Mowlarssostig, Kilcoman, Annadale and Glannagillagh; and Sigersons in Cahir, Kilcrohane, Derreen, Laharan.
Can anyone help me narrow down these choices (or even eliminate a choice) for the locations of John Dwyer and Catherine Sigerson in Killorglin area about 1850-1852 before they left?? I would love to be able to see the Township or lands that they came from I come to Killorglin, and walk that land myself. Any information would be greatly appreciated!!
