Like many here in the states, I've grown up hearing family stories and the generation that could have solidfied information has long since passed. I've been told that my family (Nestor) comes from County Clare mainly but also has a connection in County Limerick. Is there anyone that knows ANYTHING about Nestor's in either county? Before I start paying for a genology site I'd like to see if there is even information making it worth while to look into. My Great Grandfather was a William Bernard Nestor supposedly born in Ireland but grew up in New York, New York. I'm guessing this would be in the late 1800's/ early 1900's.
Take care, Roger
Roger

Roger:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Do you know the names of the parents of your William Nestor? From 1864-1911, there were only nine William Nestor civil birth records in all of Ireland. There were none in Co. Clare and two in Co. Limerick. One was in 1865 which I discounted as too early. The other record was in 1886. See second record on this link https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1886/02609/1963475.pdf
Let me know if you have any questions.

His wifes name was Mary Cunnignham Nestor and she was from an unknown place in Scotland. I believe my grandfather was the oldest child and his name was William Lawrence Nestor. I am still trying to find William Bernard's date of death. Thank you for the support, Roger

The attached jpg files are 1) Young William Bernard Nestor in New York City shortly after arriving from Ireland 2) Young Adult William Bernard Nestor and 3) Older William Bernard Nestor with his son William Lawrence Nestor. I know it doesn't help in figuring things out but thought I'd post it anyway on the off chance someone might see something. Thank you again for the interest, Roger

Hi,
There are 16 William Nestor births between 1865 and 1916.
I do know of a Nestor family that went ot Canada one married mt relative.
Please state a year so I can narrow down how old he would have been in the USA.
On the census in the USA it usually says the year of arrival. You can pick other information from other sites and searches.
Thanks
Margot

THANK YOU very much. :-) That William L Nestor will not be a relation I am aware of. My Grnadfather, William Lawrence was born in 1908 and died in 1997 in Florida. But you are giving me hope that it is worth looking into. Also, with the response from you and Mr. Mcdonnell, I have started searching again and found that my biological grandmother was named Helen J. Nestor which I had not known up to this point. Roger

Hi, Well I think you need to look at the marriage.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:24DC-4HJThe death from above....here it is again, is this the William that went from Ireland to the USA?

Hi,
Going by William's marriage, with the names of his parents this is his birth record. 1865. When you open the link if there is a box requesting names, just put in william nestor.

As it says his father was a Station Master, I looked for the family in the 1901 and 1911 census. See below.
In 1901 his father John was a widower, his son Laurence was living with him.
The townland area of Williams birth is ..... Fortunata nearest town is Claina. The main town is Patrickwell.

1901 Census...... he is a Railway gate keeper.

Page 2 you will see John's signature.

Laurence or Lawence marries Margaret Collins, she is from Meanus.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1904/10210/5716649.pdf
When I saw saw the marriage I thought Ooooops!
My Collins family lived and one still lives in Meanus!
The only thing is none of them are interested in Family History, like me.
So now you know they are from Patrickswell Limerick.
John Died in 1905

WOW! You currently have my head spinning! This information has my head spinning not just with the amount of things you have been able to find but you have mentioned names (Bridget) that have only been mentioned once or twice when I was younger. Currently I am a police officer, and am now excited to have something positive to do when I get home from work today. I am deeply moved by your kindness and work done here. Thank you so much, Roger

Hi Roger,
I have just seen the superb pictures you have of William Bernard and William Lawrence. And you also have a lot of detail. We would love to see these profiles added to the XO Chronicles on Ireland Reaching Out. Sharing their details would help you to connect with other descendants and it would be a great addition to what we know about the people who left Ireland.
Best regards
Laura
