I am searching for information on Patrick Collins and Mary Noonan who lived in Sheshive, Limerick. Scrolling through the Drumcollogher diocese register, from 1850 through 1857 (so far!), I have found two baptisms for this couple – illegible-named child in 1855 and Edmond in 1857. I have been looking for Catherine Collins born 1852 to 1855 (based on age on marriage record and death record) but not found her baptism record yet.

I have attached the baptism record for the child whose name I cannot decipher. Could someone please assist with the Christian name of this child and confirm the mother’s surname?

The entry for this baptism is on the left-hand page with date 17 (about halfway down the page).

I have attached the baptism record for Edmond which shows this family was living in Sheshive (second entry on right-hand page, date 16th).

Also, if there is a record for the marriage of Patrick Collins to Mary Noonan, that would help define a starting point for searching for more baptisms.

    I did not find a marriage record on the subscription site Roots Ireland and I searched in both Limerick and Cork.  Besides Edmond and the 1855 record, there are also records for John 1859 and twins Mary and Timothy in 1861.

    The name in question to me looks like Thomas. Maybe others will provide their views. The mothers name is Newman which also appears in the later records.

Revisiting the 1855 baptism, the name does indeed appear to be “Thomasum”, as you suggest.  I scoured the Drumcollogher diocese register for marriages 1848 through 1855 but no marriage record for Patrick Collins and Mary Noonan or Newman - there are lots of gaps. I think my Jord*n DNA connections must go back one generation where records are few and far between.

    The baptism record for son Edmond, in 1857, appears to show the mother’s maiden name as “Noonan” not Newman but the first sponsor appears to be Thomas Newman (not Noonan), no doubt a relative, but causing surname confusion! I’ve attached the baptism record for Edmond in case anyone else is interested in this family. The 1855 baptism shows the family as living in “Tullig” (presumably Tulligmacthomas, about 4kms north-ish of Drumcollogher) then in nearby Sheshive for the 1857 baptism.

    I also found a death record for Edmond Collins which fits fairly well; aged 20 dying in March 1878, in Sheshive. The informant was Mary Noonan, possibly his mother noting that her husband Patrick was deceased. That seems unusual, using her maiden name? The death record is also attached for anyone who is interested.
