My Great Grandfather retired from the RIC (He was serving at Scarriff)  to Killaloe in 1891 & died there in 1893 aged 50.

He left a widow Eliza(beth) & my Gran Julia (later Neary) aged 5 b 1888 - her siblings were Mary Anne b 1884 & Patrick James b 1886

I have been unable to find them in the 1901 census records, but they later moved to Dublin, where I found them in 1911 census, 

Elizabeth's brother was a George Lynch (shown as present at Patrick's death on certificate)

I am seeking any information about the family & especially their time in Killaloe 1891 to ??

  • Further to above. I now have information suggesting Patrick & Elizabeth Doyle kept a Pub in Clare after he retired from RIC

    Since he retired to Killaloe & died a couple of years later, if the info is correct the Pub must have been there.

    Can anyone advise how many Pubs existed there 1891=3?

    Also if there is any method of checking Licensee records for more info?

  • Hello Jim from South Africa, interest is in Killaloe as my brother in law, Charlie Doyle, b. 1947,

    presently living in Brisbane, is great grandson to Daniel Doyle, solicitor, (1826, Killaloe - 1873

    Limerick), one of the youthful leaders of the Young Ireland movement of 1848 - one wonders

    whether or not your ancestor was related!
