This man has been very hard to trace. He came to New Zealand and Married Ellen Hurley in Fielding in 1880. he is granted a block of land which he farmed until 1899 then went milking cows. he and Ellen had at least 7 children. he then moves into Palmerston North and is listed in the electrol rolls as a contractor. Some time between 1908 and 1911 he dissappears. family story went home to ireland to claim an inheritance. He never came back to live with Ellen. Any help would be great. I do not Know the names of his parents or the ship he came to NZ on

Hi Janny,
Do you have any idea from records how old rougly was Patrick? I checked rootsireland for possible birth records in Clare, assuming he was at least sixteen when he married Ellen-
Patrick Grady on 23 March 1842 to Michael Grady and Maria Rickards in Ennis parish
Patrick Grady on 4 Nov 1847 to Thomas Grady and Margaret Molony in Ennis parish
Patrick Grady in Jan 1853 to John Grady and Margaret Fahy in Mountshannon and Whitegate Parish
Patrick Grady on 12 June 1854 to Patrick Grady and Mary Crowe in Orchard Lane, Ennis Parish
Patrick Grady in Jan 1862 to Patrick Grady and Bridget Cullinan in Crusheen Parish
Do any of these stick out to you? Based on children's names you might be able to pick out likely matches.
I also checked calendars of wills to see who in Clare left something to a Patrick O'Grady/Grady-

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GTMX-DMK?i=206&cc=1921…; (this one granted Patrick and another man an estate worth over £447.This was a lot of money then, perhaps this is him as it might have seemed worth leaving NZ for?)

Death records are available online up to 1965 for Ireland on www.irishgenealogy.ie so there must be something there for Patrick if he stayed there. However you need to know the civil registration district it occured in. If anything jumps out at you here or links to any other clues you have, I'll see if I can look into it further
Hope some of this helps, Alicia

Hi Alicia,
Many thanks for your help. Even Patricks age is not clear as on his Intention to marry record he is 23 dated 15 December 1879. A labourer having been in New Zealand 7 months. I do Know he was working on the Wharf in Wellington and then on Whiskers farm near Fielding. On his marriage Certificate dated 7th January 1880 his age is 25. He could have been older not sure.
Children are in order of birth John, Catherine, Bridget (our relation),James, Patrick, Daniel, William, family talk say there was at least another child but I have not found any in cemetary searched or BDMs. On Bridgets birth Certificate 20 November 1884 his age is 30. On Williams Birth Certificate 14 January 1897 he is 40.
So from my deductions his birth is between 1855 and 1857
Cheers Janny
