I'm trying to found out or verify my Great Grandfathers parents. My Great Grandfather was Patrick Donahue Winter, born  in 1845. I believe that his parents were Patrick Winter from Kilballoyowen and his mother was Margaret Donnelly. I found this information from the National Records of Scotland where my Great Grand Father married his first wife Catherine Gallacher in Glasgow, 1868. If anyone can confirm his birth place and parents I would appreciate it. He left Scotland for the USA when Catherine was with child and when he returned he was told that she had passed away along with the child. He found out many years later (20 or so) that his son  did not pass away in childbirth, they reunited at this point. His mother Catherine Gallacher did however die shortly after giving birth. Or so the story goes.

Would love to know any informaiton that may be out there.

    I’ll leave the Co. Clare aspect of your query to our volunteers there, but for the Scottish part, I can confirm there is a marriage in Bridgeton, Glasgow in 1868 between Patrick Winter and Catherine Gallacher. There is also a death in Bridgeton for Catherine Winter, previously Gallacher, in 1871. She was aged 26. The GROS ref is 644/3 1254. You can view both the marriage & death certificates on-line on the Scotlandspeople site.

  • Thank you both for getting back to me. I do have the records from the National records of Scotland. I found a Patrick Winter  and wife Margaret on the Irish Census website, they lived in Kilfenora, Clare but I'm not sure if they are the right ones as the marriage certificate from Scotland in 1868 looks like Patrick (father) is deceased. 

    My Great Grandfather married Margaret McMahan in Sna Francisco in 1877 I believe. She was also from Ireland, County Cork or Clare, not sure which.
