It is believed Richard was born 21 Oct 1807 in Killorglin, father possibly Edward Hickson and mother Rosanna.
Mary Ann Carter is believed to have died 1823 and buried in Dromavally, Co Kerry. I visited the cemetery in 2010 but was unable to find a grave or any reference to her. The Catholic church has a marriage between Ellen Hickson and Charles Daly and it is thought this Ellen Hickson was a sibling of Richard. The cross church would seem illogical.
The old Church of Ireland in Dromavally has been turned into a Catholic cemetery, with graves inside the ruined building.
The children - Susan born 1830, William Carter born 1832, Mary born about 1835, Ellen born 1840, Catherine born 1844, George Carter born 1846, John Christopher born 1848.
Richard was a shopkeeper and nailor as was his son William. He went to Rhode Island where he died in 1870 and was buried in either North Cemetery RI or Bellingham RI. Searches for the old North cemetery have revealed nothing.
Griffiths Valuation for the town of Killorglin page 174 has Richard in Main Street and there are other references including Milltown and Tralee. But Tralee is considered beyond his means as that Richard Hickson had a shared interest in a ship.
From a family history written by Bishop Don Robinson "The Hicksons were an old Protestant family whose Hickson forebears had crossed to Ireland from England in the time of Cromwell. Their ancestral seat was "The Grove" at Dingle, 30 miles or more west of Tralee in county Kerry" IE they were transplanted to Ireland and possibly from Cambridgeshire with Rev Christopher Hickson.
John Christopher Hickson had a plaque installed in memory of his parents in the old Church of Ireland which still existed in 2010 although the church was by then a Tapas restaurant as a new church had been built.
