On a date in early March 1819, two children (listed entries alonside each other) are Baptised at Tulla

Patrick Halloran- son of Patrick Halloran and Brigit King  no sponsore listed

Brigit Driscoll daughter of Michael Driscoll and Mary Halloran- sponsors John Dwyer and Mary Halloran

Knockaclugg stated as the parish of these 2 families.I located a townland in County Limerick- Knockaclugga- 80 kms from Tulla

Can any inference be drawn as to these families such  a long distance from their homes?

  • Hi,

It is possible that there was an army barracks in Tulla or an RIC barracks and that the men were stationed there. Just a thought.

    Hi,

In relation to this record, is the entry for a townland or a parish?

I attach a copy of baptism record and the townland of Knockdoocunna - Griffith's Valuations - in Tulla. Could they relate ?

    Regards,

  • Tulla Parish - 1819 - Baptisms

Tithe records for 1826 has the following recorded: Derrymore - John Dwyer - Liscullane - Thomas King - Ballyvergin - Parish of Clooney, Doora, Quin - Francis Driscoll. Most of the Driscoll's in Co. Clare are recorded in the Kilrush area. There is a William Driscoll in Drumcliffe parish, Ennis and also a John Driscoll - 1825. John Driscoll is recorded as Church of Ireland. Michael Driscoll may be a member of the Church of Ireland. It could be the reason that no baptismal sponsors are recorded? There were 8 Patrick Halloran's recorded in the parish of Tulla in 1826.

  • Thanks  a lot Patricia and McCoy

Knockaclugga is a townland in the Electoral division and Civil parish of Kilmoylan ,barony of Shand, Limerick county

I looked agian at the Transcribed Tulla  Baptismal records on the Clare Library website ,and the transcriber has noted Knockaclugg

However magnification , as much as is possible , leaves the conclusion  that the  letters  CL     could be  D ,   which would make Knockdoocunna a possibility

I am interested in Brigit King and the genetic and other possible relationships with the Hallorans.Killuran also makes sense for the King family
