Lookong for information on Whalen's in County Clare. Based on information from her obituary in New York State in 1913, Ann Whalen Loftus was born in Kildysart, County Clare in 1829. From a number of other sources, I have pieced together some of her siblings and parents and hope to eventually confirm and expand what I (honk) I know.
I have seen a variety of spelling variations - Whalen, Whelan, Wheaton, etc
John Whalen m Margaret (Slattery or McNamara) and had children Ann (1829), Michael (1831), Daniel (1836), and Mary (1843). Based on gaps in birth years, here were likely other children, but these 4 immigrated independently to the area around Cattaraugus County, New York at various times around 1860. I believe the parents remained in Ireland.
I'm looking for any help placing any of these folks in County Clare. The only link to County Clare is the obituary of Ann, so I remain skeptical until I can find something a little more solid. ANY help will be appreciated.

Myron:
The Killadysert RC baptismal records start in July 1829 and marriages do not begin until 1867 https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0787
I searched on two subscription sites- Roots Ireland and FindMyPast and did not find any baptismal records for the children you listed. Both sites have the records for Killadysert.
You may want to scan the register and see if you can locate any records that were missed during transcription.Possibly they were baptized in a nearby parish which no longer has records back to 1829-1843.

Hi Myron,
I attach copies of Tithe records - 1823 - to 1837 in relation to a John Whelan in Aylroe - Kilfiddane -Coolmeen in 1824 and a John Whelan in Mount, Kilchreest in 1825.
Aylroe is one mile approx. on the road from Killadysert to Labasheeda. It is overlooking the river Shannon. Mount - Kilchreest is approx. three miles on the Ennis side of Killadysert.
There are no church records for those years. Kilchreest from 1846 and Kilfiddane - Coolmeen from 1868. If you check the parish registers at nli.ie it will show the area of each parish.

McCoy

Hello Myron,
I can't answer your question directly. However, based on DNA matches, I'm fairly sure that my great grandmother Bridget Vandeleur Costello, born in Cloonsnaghta in 1851, was related to either Ann Whalen Loftus or her husband. Bridget's mother was Johanna (Judith, Susan) Keane and her father was John Vandeleur. Johanna's mother was a Murphy.
I know that Bridget's brother John lived in Olean, New York for a time along with some of their first cousins named McNerney. Later they lived in Buffalo, where the younger John died of suffocation while loading grain onto a ship in 1902.
