Searching for information on William baptised in Dromcollogher, Limerick on 17-Jan-1839 – Catholic Parish “Drumcollogher and Broadford”. He is shown as illegitimate on the baptism record. The father is shown as Michael HISTON or HISHON. Can anyone decipher the father’s surname? Looking at the handwriting and other names in on the same page, the fourth letter appears to be a “t” and not an “h” making it HisTon not HisHon as the father’s surname. Would William have been taken the surname Jourdan or Histon/Hishon?
If anyone has any knowledge of William (who/when he married, children, etc), his mother Bridget (did she go on to marry someone else) or Michael Histon/Hishon, please advise.

Definitely, Histon. I would believe William would have used Histon as his surname.
The subscription site Roots Ireland has an October 7 1859 marriage in Mahoonagh RC parish for a William Histon to an Hanora Meany. Hanora was from Dromcollogher.
There was also a January 19 1860 marriage for a William Histon to a Maria O'Donnell at Abbeyfeale RC parish.
Abbeyfeale/Dromcollogher and Mahonagh parishes are all located in southwest Co. Limerick.
No way to know what happened with Bridget from a marriage standpoint.
