The cottage was in use by the Pearse family as a summer home including Patrick who was a leader in the 1916 Rising. Later it was used as part of a summer school for Irish language pupils who came from Dublin. The cottage is located in a most picturesque part of the West of Ireland and is a popular tourist spot as a result.
Funding recently became available for the renovation the cottage as part of the 1916 commemorations. It is located off the R340 and guided tours are available.
