I am looking for information on William John Coulter b circa 1824, d 4 June 1911 and his wife Catherine Coulter nee McGee b circa 1838, d 5 Nov 1919 both buried at Ahoghill I believe.   Also maybe other family members buried there.   William and Catherine had children including James, my g grandfather who settled in NZ.   Other siblings maybe Thomas, Robert, Lizzie  and others. All children were born in Antrum Ballymena area I believe.   Thankyou.

Note that she was married 57 years, had 9 children of which 5 were still alive in 1911.

This looks to be the family grave:

Coulter            :   St Colmanell's, Ahoghill            1911            Erected by Lizzie Coulter, Ballybollan, in memory of her father William John Coulter who died 4th June 191 aged 87 years Also her mother Catherine Coulter who died 5th Nov 1919 aged 86 years Also her sister Mary Ann who died June 188[1, 3 or 8] aged 23 years Also two children who died in infancy.

(If you want a photo of the grave, I can get you that as I live just a mile or two away).

What looks to be the death of Mary Ann Coulter was registered in Ballymena, Apr ? Jun 1881 Volume 1, page 79. Aged 24.

    Hi Sandra

My ancestor Hester Coulter married William Spence around 1835. Their children were born in Carmacmoin, We have no idea who her siblings were or parents. She died on 23 October 1882 making her birth around 1811

    Their children were

Thomas, James, William Robert, Courtney, Mary Jane and Sarah McCord Spence

Coulter wasnt a very common name in the area and I wonder if there are some linkages between the families.

If your ancestor William John Coulter was born around 1824 in Ahoghill he could be a close cousin or younger sibling or entirely unrelated

Has anyone in your family DNA tested through ancestry?

I was in Ahoghill a few months back lookiing at my Spence ancestors graves. My direct ancestor William Spence I think was buried in the Old Churchyard, Ahoghill but I think the mental nameplate may have fallen into the dirt and been covered over. The headstone was right next to two other Spences.

Very few Coulters on this site
