  • Dear beaumontgirl

In a similar way to your Rathkeale query, you will have difficulties with this search as records for the RC parish of Larne (Island Magee) begin in 1821. Again, there will be no parish records available before this time. Church of Ireland records for Islandmagee are listed as lost and Presbyterian records don't begin until 1842. Do you know what religion Alexander was?

  • Patrick Magee was my 7th g grandfather. Esther was his sister. You can google Rosanna McCuller & it will populate the family tree. Good luck it's very interesting.

  • Thank you for your most interesting post about Islandmagee ancestors.  Unfortunately as has been mentioned records have survived better for the 1800s than for earlier.  1st Islandmagee Presbyterian records commence from 1829 for baptisms and marriages and 2nd Islandmagee Presbyterian from 1854 for baptisms and 1848 for marriages.    the Church of Ireland records were mostly lost in the 1922 Forecourts fire in Dublin, but Methodist Circuit baptisms survive from 1826.

There are some substitutes that I can provide some information from butI need to clarify how you know that both your McCullough and Magee ancestors came from Islandmagee.  Is this written information or a family Bible or is it a family story because, if true, it is a help for others struggling with family details in the 1700s.

If you are prepared to share your sources, then I can assess the suitability of any information I hold on the McCulloughs and Magees of Islandmagee.

    Best wishes,
