Hi, my family are desperately trying to complete our family tree however are 'stuck' in respect of our Loughguile ancestors so I am hoping that someone on here might be able to help! My great great grandfather John McDonald was a farmer who supposedly lived on the family farm 'Glenbush' on the Glenbush road. He had a sister called Caroline, who eventually inherited the farm. John was engaged to a local school teacher however having hired my great great grandmother from the hiring fair in Glenarm they fell in love and moved to Scotland. This is all the info we have on John due to the fact that he died shortly after the birth of his first child. Would anyone be able to provide any further info on this family? No info is too small given we have already very little. Thank you xx

The Glenbush Road runs through 3 townlands, Coolkeeran, Knockavrinnan and Shelton North. I searched Griffiths (1861) and the 1901 census but can?t see any McDonald/McDonnell farm there. What timescale did your ancestors live there?
There are about 4 McDonnell households in Loughguile in Griffiths. The nearest would probably be Felix McD on plot 3 on Shelton South which is the modern Glenbar Rd. So a few hundred yards from the Glenbush Rd. It passed from Felix to John in 1872 then to Malcolm in 1883 and then to a McKinley family in 1894.

Thank you so much for your speedy reply and search efforts! I too am at a loss as to why they are not recorded anywhere. Our family have no exact dates of birth however Johns wife was born in 1845 so we have been using this as a rough guide for his age in our searches. John died in and around 1888, the year his only child was born. My granny remembers the farm in Loughguile was up for sale in the 1970s as she read the advertisement in the East Antrim Times....it still had its original name. Unfortunately my gran passed away in October and we have forgotten what it was called. A relative 'thinks' it was glenbush....but he could be wrong! It's very frustrating when you can't get any further! X
