I am looking for Thomas LAVERY b. 1843 Armagh county.
His New Zealand death registration 5th September 1924 gives his age as 81 from which I calculate the 1843 birth year.
A likely arrival date in New zealand from passenger records is: Lavery Thos, 1872 #1243, age 30, male, single,miner, from IRL, accom STG, ship RANGITOTO, from Melbourne 22 May 1872, arrival Greymouth, source PROV VPRS948,LDS film 0284504 victoria to NZ passenger records, this would give a calculated birth year of 1842
the only other clue I have is an address from his sons diary with a place name that does not appear to match any Armagh place names or variations in spelling
"DAD -- Cannagolie County Armagh"

It could possibly be Cannagola or sometimes Canagola. There is a Will on the PRONI website for an Edward Lavery but it is early 1900s - he died 13th June 1904 and his Will was Probated 8th February 1905 [possibly a relative]. He lived at Canagola. The Will can be viewed on www.proni.gov.uk - search the Will Calendars.
