  • Some post 1858 probate files on the PRONI website. For the first 2 the wills are on-line. For the other 2 you would need to get a copy from PRONI.

    http://applications.proni.gov.uk/DCAL_PRONI_WillsCalendar/willsSearchResultsDetails.aspx

Probate of the Will of Alexander M'Cullagh late of Cladymore County Armagh Farmer who died 31 August 1901 granted at Armagh to Joseph N. Mackey Grocer and Sarah M'Cullagh the Widow

Probate of the Will of John McCullagh late of Cladymore County Armagh Farmer who died 4 April 1909 granted at Armagh to William Samuel McCullagh Farmer.

McCullagh William Samuel of Cladymore county Armagh farmer died 17 February 1930 Probate Belfast 9 June to John Gass and Henry Taylor farmers. Effects ?268 12s. 7d

McCullagh Margaret of Cladymore county Armagh spinster died 26 December 1956 Probate Belfast 4 April to Samuel David Greer farmer and Harry Taylor rate collector. Effects ?504 9s. 4d.

PRONI also have some pre-1858 wills for the McCullagh family, notably Alexander d 1791, John 1854 and Samuel d 1846. Search using the ?name search option?, and put Cladymore in the location box. The wills are not on-line and so a personal visit to PRONI is probably required, or you can pay them to copy them for you.

I also note an Alexander McCullagh who died 1750 in Cladymore, though his will has been destroyed. Possibly worth searching the Registry of Deeds records in PRONI or Dublin for Cladymore, to see if the family show up there. You might find a 3 lives lease or similar.

The family appear to have lived in Cladymore since the 1600s. Must be plantation settlers from Scotland, I suspect. There are numerous papers in PRONI relating to the family. (Search on the e-catalogue using ?Cladymore? and it will bring up a hundred or so papers, many of which relate to your family. Examples are:

PRONI has D308/64: 16th Oct 1654 Admon for John McCullagh of Cladymore.

D462/198 Lease of 13ac. 2r. 33per. for 25 years from 1 November 1836. Rent: ?17. 2s. 8d. John McCullagh, Cladymore, Co. Armagh, to Saml. McClaughly, Shanecrackenmore, Co. Armagh. Shanecrackenmore, Co. Armagh.

  • The McCullaghs are linked to a few locations in Cladymore but it was the house centred here (just across the boundary river of the neighbouring townland of Cladybeg) where Samuel McCullagh is listed as the tenant in 1824. He had a piece of adjoining land that straddled the river and included what is believed to be an old church and burial site. The house had been in the family name since 1786 at least. By 1864 the same farm had William McCullagh as the tenant, which he remained as until the early 1880s.

Also by 1864, Alexander McCullagh had taken over the tenancy for an adjacent house on the Cladymore side of the river, here. As noted above in the will search by Ahoghill, Alexander appears to have died in 1901, being succeeded by his wife Sarah and subsequently his son Joseph.

This house was in the name of Robert McCullagh in 1824 and then John in 1864, before passing to John's son William.

These are based on tenancy maps, the Griffith Valuation and later revisions, as well the 1901 and 1911 census.
