If you want to find out if Nicholas and David Tedford are related, then I would start by looking at both their marriage certificates to see if the father’s names and occupations match. You can view the original certificates on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option:

You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate.

With regard to finding the Haire family, you would need to search for their baptisms in church records. You don’t say what denomination they were but most of the Haires in Co Armagh in the 1901 census were either Presbyterian or Church of Ireland so I’d focus on those.  Tradition was to marry in the bride’s church so you can often ascertain denomination and family church from their marriage certificate. There are 2 Church of Ireland churches in Tartaraghan (Milltown – records from 1840) and Tartaraghan itself (records from 1825). Tartaraghan Presbyterian only has records from 1853, so that may not be quite so helpful.

As with your other 2 enquiries, the relevant church records are in PRONI in Belfast.

I looked for the Haire family in Griffiths for Derrykeevan in 1864 but they are not listed. So they had either moved away or died. There are no Haires in the parish tithes for 1834, so it looks as though they weren’t farmers. So probably weavers or labourers. They moved around quite a bit and are always harder to trace.

In 1880 Herbert HAIR, 19, cousin, laborer, born in Ireland, parents born in Ireland was in the household of James W. PARKS, son of Anne CRANSTON & William PARKS, T. of Lewiston, Niagara County, NY.

In 1901 Eliza Haire 76, mother-in-law, widow, b. County Armagh, can read & write, Church of Ireland, was in the household of David Tedford 50, farmer & his wife Lavinia 43, b. County Armagh. Also in the household was Robert George Tedford 18, farmer’s son in Derrykeeran, Tartaraghan, County Armagh.
