Researchiung the Daniel McGarr family of Ballyraggan. Daniel married Anne Donahoe in 1821 at Baltinglass. Children-- Catherine (Hore), Maria (Hore) and Bridget(Kinsella) emmigrated to the USA. Catherine married in Ireland, the others in USA. Daniel's daughters Anne (Quigley) and Sarah (Hughes) remained in Ireland. Two sons, John and Richard, don't know what became of them. Any information about them or Ballyraggan would be much appreciated.

Hi Allie,
Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone with information makes a connection with you and helps you to further your research.
In the meantime, have you tried looking for record of the family in Griffith?s Valuation? This is a property valuation survey that was carried out in Ireland in 1848-64. I did a quick search for McGarr in Co. Kildare and only one result came back; a John McGarr in Morristownbiller:
Also, Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so any births, deaths or marriages in the family after this date would be recorded in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office. Here is their website:

You can search the indexes to these records up to 1958 online at:

Have you tried looking for McGarrs in the 1901/1911 census records? http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/
Some other websites that you may find useful are :

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
