My 3x great grandparents, Samuel Ingram c.b.1791-c.d1852 and Jane Bailey c.b.1805-1857 left Ireland in 1832 for Canada.
They were Presbyterian. I am looking for their marriage record and was wondering if any Presbyterian records survived for about 1823. I believe that their first child was either, Alexander was born 1824 or Sarah/Sally born 1826.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks BJ

Hello BJ, The surname Ingram was connected with Seafin Presbyterian Church (also known as Gola Meeting House) which was located in the Parish of Knockbride, Bailieborough. The church was demolished but the graveyard remains. Baptismal register only goes back to 1871 and Marriage 1845. There is one Ingram headstone in the graveyard but the first person remembered on it, Aaron James Ingram died in 1956. You mention the name 'Furtha', Knockbride, which is a townland, it is spelling Fartha and Fartagh in different places. In a list of dog owners in the townland of Fartha in 1890 it lists Joseph Ingram and James Ingram. In a registry of weapons 1799 to 1833 it lists Abraham Ingram and Allen Ingram both from Fartagh. In a list dated 21st October 1859, Abraham Ingram Jnr has 13 acres, Edward Ingram has 10 acres and widow of Allan Ingram has 18 acres, all in the townland of Fartha. Regards, Leslie

hi cuz BJ. Sam and Jane were my 2x's g g parents. Iwas told Jane died early 1850's and Samuel late 1850- 1860' s. Read about him draging cart to marketin Seaforth Ont 1857.
Alexander was born 1824, James 1827. Baptized at Correnary Presbyterian. Many of our relatives belonged to that church. At that time it was Rev Smith.
Mary Anne was born inDurham County Ontario 1829.
So they came over between 1827 - 1829
I to would like marriage record, or names of their parents.
As well as their siblings
Samuelhad a brother Edward born 1798?? lived and died inCootehill,
and.brother James born 1800ish lived in Knocbride. A brother who came
to Canada and one murdered and left for dead on the doorstep.
That's all I know for certain. I have lots of info on Edward and James family.
as well as Sam and Janes kids. There are so many. I am thru Isabella, the youngest of Sam and Jane. -
Hello Ladies,
Samuel and Jane were also my 2X great grandparents and it is very nice to find you on here. I am descended thru their daughter Esther Ingram who married Thomas Halliday. I have done some research and would love to find out more about our ancestors. I hope we can chat soon.

If either of you can give me some information on Mary Ann regarding Durham, Ontario perhaps I could help you. There is a city/town called Durham, Ontario but also there is Durham County, Ontario which encompasses a larger area of cities, towns, etc. Maiden name Ingram? Curious as there were Ingrams in our small town when I was young. Dallas

Thanks for info Les,
We do have relatives in Seefin, or did. The James and Edward land owners are my 2x Great Grampas brothers. Don't know other siblings names. Too bad records are gone. Hopefully someone who knows Edward from Cootehill, or James from Knockbride's parents and siblings. -
Hi cuz Sandy,
Nice to meet you. Have you had any luck with Sam or Janes parents, or other siblings. There are Bailiey's near the places they lived in Ontario. I'm thinking maybe a brother came over with. Also the Bell connection in Knockbride and Ontario. It's a big task doing this family. Sam and Jane had over 50 grandkids. Are you aware of the family history Alva Ingram started? -
Hi Dallas,
What small town did you grow up in?
Re Mary Ann Ingram, do you have a birth timeline, or parents names. We have a Mary Ann, born in Durham County. -
Cuz Sandy, what part of the world do you live in? I am near Toronto.
-
I too am near Toronto and will try to find out the names of the two Ingram ladies that lived here when I was young. I am in "Durham Region" it is called. I personally do not have a connection to them but will do my best for you, will check the local cemetery also. I would tell you where I live if we could connect off this site, dallas

Hi Cuz's
Samuel Ingram (1791-1862) and Jane Bailey (1805-1857) is also my 2x Great Grandparents. They were married in 1824
I am a descendant of their son James (1827-1872)
I never heard of a Sarah/Sally b.1826
I ony have Alexander b.1824
then James (my Great Grandfather) b. 1827 in Ireland
However, the 1942 census, shows Samuel with a family of which only 3 were from Ireland. ???
Did Alexander not make it to Canada?
The Aaron James Ingram (1879-1956) that Les mentioned, is the son of Samuel Edward Ingram (1846-1918) who is the son of James Ingram (Samuels brother) (1800-1878)

Hi I checked in our town and I was incorrect about the two sisters I was thinking about but I have asked around as the name is so familiar to me. I did find out about an "Ingram" family who has been in this area for 2 generations. Whether they have any connection to those you are looking for I don't know. Sr. Had a chicken farm and supplied chickens to a local chicken hatchery. That was is the 1960's. Jr. Went into teaching and became a principal and now retired. I do understand the areas that you are telling me and we are within half hour to an hour of all of them. They live in Li. Br. Hope this helps. M

Hi,
I've done DNA testing at AncestryDNA and I have a group of several shared 4th cousin matches, who all descend from the Ingrams of Knockbride, Cavan. I don't know where I fit in, but it's clear that since they all match each other, I must descend from this family too. I do have lots of ancestors from Cavan and Monaghan, especially in the Cootehill area, but most of my lines are stuck in the early 1800s, whereas theirs go back to the late 1700s. I suspect that one of my ancestors' mothers' maiden names must have been Ingram.
I match:
Four descendants of James Ingram and Isabella McKelvie.
One descendant of Samuel Ingram and Jane Bailey.
One descendant of Edward Ingram and Ann McNeill.
One descendant of Samuel Fisher and Jennie Bailey (the Baileys seem to be closely connected too, so I wonder if this family connects to the Ingrams). So I wonder whether James, Samuel and Edward had a sister, or whether one had a daughter, who married one of my ancestors, and who is therefore my 4x or 5x great grandmother.
My ancestral surnames in the area are Gray, Lemon, Patten, Williamson, Riddell, Chapman, Moore, Corbett, Byers and Sturgeon.
Since you have all researched the Ingram family extensively, I wonder whether you have come across any of these names in the course of your research?
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Elliot -
Hi Cuz Elliot
I have not yet come across the names you've listed.
Nor done DNA
I would be 4th cousin to children of Edward 1798 and James 1800 children.
There were probably many siblings including girls, only confirmed boys so far.
You should try on facebook
IGP's County Cavan Ireland Genealogy Group
I have seen some of those names in that group.
You can list your DNA results and get responses from group members.
Also they will help you with searching. -
HI Cousin Elliot
I cam accross the name of Byers, but she married a Cairrns in Ontario in 1905. David Cairns was born in Ireland and the son of Agnes Ingram, one of James daughters.
Not sure if this helps.
