Hi,
I am wondering could anyone give me some information on this building in Killaliss which is now fairly grown in, even more so than in the picture taken from google maps. Having driven past over the weekend I would like to know more, I believe that it was a church of meeting house of some kind?

Hi Laura,
The building is Killaliss Wesleyan Methodist Church. The first Methodist Church in the area was located where Billyhill Orange Hall now stands. (This is the hall to which Carmel is referring, they are less than a mile apart) The church you passed by was built about 1890, in the townland of Knocknalosset, it closed in the early 1970s. There is a query on this site about the Nesbitt Family, Knocknalosset who lived not far from the church. A member of that family Herbert Nesbitt died at an early age in 1941, between then and 1943 the church was renovated and became known as the Nesbitt Memorial Church. I attended Sunday evening services there back in the late 1960s, services were conducted then by the minister connected with Bailieborough Methodist Church. It is now owned by a local farmer. More details can be found on pages 320/321 of Knockbride A History. Regards, Les. http://www.bailiepublications.com

Thanks Les, I thought it was a Methodist Church alright. Looking at the historic 6inch maps(1837-1842) I had noticed that 'Methodist Chapel' is located close to where Billyhill Hall is nowadays.
