Two BELL brothers (with their their wives) departred Knockbride Co. Cavan for Sydney Australia and arrived in Sydney on the "Lord Western" in 1840. The brothers were Benjamin b.abt 1821 and James b. 1809. We know for certain that they came from the parish of Knockbride but are unsure of the townland where they lived. Their father was Joesph Bell d. abt.1869, there is an entry in Griffith (1857) for a Joesph Bell in LATSEY but I am not sure if this if the correct person? I beleive that they were probably Church of Irleand, or Methodist. Does anyone have any ideas on how to progres this?
Cheers kevin

Hi Kevin,
I will look at this more over the week end for you. Meanwhile, I was wondering do you have Joseph Bell's death Cert, the information I would want from that: is his townland and also the informant on the death cert as his will tell you most likely who was with him when he died (hopefully a son or daughter). Latsey would most likely be in the parish of Knockbride, at least that is where the closest Church of Ireland is to them. There is also Coroneary Presbyterian Church in Knockbride.
I looked up the 1901 Census and there was a Joseph Bell (aged 60) living there, which could be a grand son of Joseph d 1869, families followed a naming pattern, so this would fit.

On the Census, look at the District Electoral areas of Canningstown, Skeagh & Coroneary, they would all be part of the Knockbride Parish.
There is another person, who would have a fair bit of information on that area & I will try and talk to him over the weekend.

Hello Kevin,
I'm also related to the Bell family of Knockbride. Do you have an email address where I can contact you more privately?
