I'm trying to trace my great grandmother Mary Wallace (nee Ballinger) who according to the Census was born about 1843 in Clare. She married James Wallace who was a member of the RIC and they had their first child James in May 1877 in Cahir Co Tipperary where the family lived for the rest of their lives. Mary had a sister Bridget who migrated to New York and married a Charles Burley who came from Ireland too - maybe Clare. Bridget's death certificate lists her parents as Andrew Ballinger and Mary O'Leary. I suspect that Mary and Bridget had a brother Andrew Ballinger who was also in the RIC but have no evidence for this. I have no idea which part of Clare Mary came from. There are Ballingers in Griffiths and in the Tithe Applotment lists but I can't make a link. There are also Ballingers in the Baptism records in the Clare library but I can't link there. I can't find any present day Ballingers in Clare either. Thanks for your help.

I found the 1875 civil marriage index record for Mary and James. You can get a copy from the General Register Office for around 4 euros. The record would show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom and where the bride and groom were living in 1875. It would confirm that Andrew was her father.
