Hello,
Michael’s marriage & children’s birth Certificates show his birth place as: Broadford, County Clare.
(Australia) - Victorian Immigration records show 3 Michael O'Neil’s - born 1841, 1852 and 1853, arrived on various boats in 1876.
Michael’s marriage certificate shows his parents as John O'Neil and Mary Kineiry (I have no idea if Kineiry is spelt correctly). Michael signed with an
“X” on this certificate, so I presume he was illiterate. This may also indicate
that he came from a poor family and maybe they owned no land in Ireland.
I have studied the RC Parish NLI 1841-1860 Broadford, Killaloe birth records and I’m certain he is not listed.
“Roots Ireland" shows no records of any Michael O'Neil’s which is strange as it covers all counties in Ireland.
"Irish Genealogy" have 2 records - Micheal O Neil born 14/12/1851 in Dublin and Michael O'Neil born 22/10/41 in Causeway, County Kerry.
Although, I have since tried to find these records and they seem to have
disappeared.
I am wondering if I should look elsewhere or what you recommend?
Many thanks.
KerryH

Hi KerryH:
Many thanks for your post to the IrelandXO message board. Actually, the Kinnity family did reside in the area and there are a number of spelling variations with the name.
I know of a local historian in Broadford who I will contact and he may be able to shed further light on the family as he is presently compiling a publication on the history of Broadford.
You can email me for further assistance at: tulla@irelandxo.com.
I look forward to hearing.
All the best,
Jane
